Analyzing The Pinty’s Presents The Clarington 200 At Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 13, 2014) –The 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season is set to get underway with the Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 on Sunday, May 18 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ont. Below is a statistical look at the performance of the series and selected drivers at the track:

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Race Setup:

L.P. Dumoulin is the defending winner of the Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200. He swept both events at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2013 to become the first driver in series history to win back-to-back races at the road course.
J.R. Fitzpatrick has a series-leading three wins at CTMP in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action, and he set the track qualifying record in this event a year ago.
Reigning NCATS champion Scott Steckly ranks third in series history with 15 wins, but is still looking for his first career road course victory.
Andrew Ranger won at CTMP in both of his championship seasons, including the series’ inaugural event at the track in 2007.

History

Opened in 1961 as Mosport Park. The name Mosport was a contraction of motor sport.
Has played host to the American Le Mans Series, CASCAR Super Series, Can-Am, Formula 1, IndyCar and USAC Champ Car, among others, through the years.
Welcomed the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 for the first time on June 17, 2007 in an event won by Andrew Ranger.
Was renamed from Mosport International Raceway to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in February 2012.
Held the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event on Sept. 1, 2013.

Notebook

CTMP has welcomed the NCATS eight times previously, which the most events for any road course since the series began competition in 2007.
This will mark the second season in a row that CTMP will have two NCATS road course events after single races there from 2007-12.
Eight drivers have participated in all eight previous events.
The eight previous races have produced four different winners, led by J.R. Fitzpatrick’s three.
There have been four different pole winners in eight contests, led by Andrew Ranger’s three.
There has yet to be a wire-to-wire victory at CTMP, but Ranger twice won from the pole.
Fitzpatrick is the youngest CTMP race winner at 20 years, 1 month and 6 days.
L.P. Dumoulin is the oldest CTMP victor at 34 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Made his series debut at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2007.
Has five top 10s, an average finish of 13th and a best result of third (2011) in eight career starts at CTMP.
Recorded finishes of fifth and 10th at CTMP in 2013.

L.P. Dumoulin (No. 47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare Dodge)

The 2011 NCATS Rookie of the Year has two wins, a pole, nine top fives and 17 top 10s in 37 career starts.
Both of his career triumphs came at CTMP in a 2013 season sweep of events at the track. He became the first back-to-back winner there in series history.
Has finishes of 23rd and fifth in his other two appearances at the track.

J.R. Fitzpatrick (No. 84 Equipment Express Chevrolet)

Set the series’ track qualifying record in this event last year, but suffered a broken drive shaft early in the race that resulted in his only career CTMP result outside of the top five.

Alex Guenette (No. 39 Motos Illimitees Dodge)

Earned 2013 NCATS Rookie of the Year honors when he posted two top fives and five top 10s in 12 starts.
Had finishes of 26th and 18th his first two CTMP appearances a year ago.
Finished 25th in his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start last year, also at CTMP.

Jason Hathaway (No. 3 Rockstar Energy Drink/Roto Static Chevrolet)

Has three wins and 52 top 10s in 87 career starts. Is one of four drivers to compete in every race in NCATS history.
Has four top 10s, an average finish of 13th and a best result of third in eight career CTMP starts.
Finished third and 25th at CTMP a year ago.

D.J. Kennington (No. 17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors Dodge)

The 2010 and 2012 NCATS champion. Maintains series record for career wins (19), top fives (62), top 10s (73) and is one of four drivers to start each of the 87 all-time events.
Also ranks second in series history in laps led (2,754) and fifth in poles (10).
Has a win (2011), two runner-ups (2008, `12), an average finish of 3.5 and a worst finish of sixth (2010) in eight previous CTMP races. Finished fourth in both 2013 races there.

Jeff Lapcevich (No. 76 Tim Hortons Dodge)

Has a pole and 34 top 10s in 53 career starts. The pole came last September at CTMP.
Has seven top 10s, an average finish of seventh and a best result of second in eight previous CTMP races.
Finished second and eighth at CTMP last year.

Kerry Micks (No. 02 Johnsonville/Leland Ford)

Has three wins, four poles and 50 top 10s in 77 career starts.
Recorded a pole (2013) and a win (2008) at the former CTMP oval track.
Has three top 10s, an average finish of 13th and a best result of fifth (2010) in eight career CTMP road course starts.
Finished sixth and 16th at CTMP in 2013.

Andrew Ranger (No. 27 Mopar Dodge)

The 2007 and 2009 champion has 17 wins, 12 poles, 38 top fives and 54 top 10s in 61 career NCATS starts.
Of his 17 career triumphs, 14 have come on road courses, including two at CTMP. Both CTMP wins came during his championship seasons, and both were from the pole.
In six career starts at CTMP he has a series-best average finish of third with four podiums. His worst finish at the track was sixth in 2008.
Did not participate in this race a year ago, but finished third in the September race.
Also has three career road course wins in NASCAR K&N Pro Series action, and three more in ARCA competition.

Anthony Simone (No. 95 Innovative Plumbing & Mechanical Dodge)

Has a pole, six top fives and 16 top 10s in 39 career starts from 2008-10. This will be his first series appearance since the 2010 finale at Kawartha Speedway.
Was the runner-up in the 2009 CTMP race when he led 13 of 51 laps. Has finishes of 22nd and 25th in this other two series starts there.
Has three career runner-up finishes – all on road courses.

Scott Steckly (No. 22 Canadian Tire/Sylvania Dodge)

Has a series-leading three championships (2008, `11, `13) through the first seven years of NCATS competition.
Owner of 15 wins, 12 poles, 54 top fives and 65 top 10s in 87 career starts. His top fives and top 10s totals rank second all-time while his wins and poles sit third in the record book. Is the all-time leader in laps led at 3,319.
Has two poles, four top fives, an average finish of 11th and a best result of third (2012) in eight CTMP starts.
Finished 24th and 11th at CTMP a year ago.
Although he is looking for his first CTMP road course win, he won at the facility’s former oval track in 2011.

The 2014 schedule features 11 races at 10 different tracks across five provinces.
Following this week’s Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200, the NCATS will return to action on June 14 for the inaugural Budweiser 300 at Autodrome Chaudiére in Vallée-Jonction, Que.
