May 24th Race #6
I think we may be finally getting the summer weather we hoped for a few weeks ago. After the longest and coldest winter in 50 years, the yearning of beautiful warm days was finally answered on this special day for the Sunset Speedway fans.
Race fans love nights like this. They get involved and the drivers have all provided the fans with beautiful autograph cards, some even bringing food treats, pens and other souvenirs for fans to remember the night and their favorite driver.
Racing was very competitive with excellent car counts in all classes. The Late Models had 27 fast cars; and Mini Stock car count was over 40 racers, all to compete and qualify for the feature races.
After finishing 5th in her first qualifying race, Lauren ran in the first semi race holding off one of Sunset’s top Mini Stock drivers to claim her 2nd victory of 2014.
Lauren would continue her strong racing this night by starting 14th in the feature and taking a 7th at the line edging the 2013 points champion by a few feet. Laruen is sitting in the top 10 in points and doing incredibly well her Rookie season.
We had a great night in our Late Model as well. We finished 2nd in our heat race and qualified 6th of 25 cars for the 50 lap feature race.
Unfortunately a pre race issue sent us to pit row and we had to start 25th.

Our son David was at Flamboro Speedway on this night for the APC Pro Late Model 100 lap invitational. We were getting reports by cell phones of his progress. David ran the Quaker State car driven by Kenny Wallace in 2013.
After qualifying 4th fastest in time trials, a dice invert put him 7th on the grid.
He would carefully work his way to 3rd, and then 2nd by lap 65.
A caution on lap 70 put David outside pole for the restart and he took the lead. The top 5 ran nose to tail until lap 90 when David started to pull away claiming the first of 6 APC feature events for 2014. We were cheering 70 miles away. David has won many feature races; but never a 100 lapper. He was a fan favorite when he raced at Flamboro Speedway and the fans let him know how much they cared after his win and during his interview.
The announcer at Sunset Speedway, award winner Spencer Lewis, mentioned David winning the race prior to the start of our 50 lap feature. Congratulations to David and his team.
