The defending champion is back as Randy Rusnell returned to Super Stock feature victory lane, dominating the 30 lap feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway. Rusnell becomes the third different feature winner this season.
Last week’s feature winner Cayden Lapcevich won the first heat ahead of Dennis Cybalski, Dan Archibald, Lane Zardo, Chris Howse, Johnny Morrison, Adam Martin and Coltin Everingham.
Steve Cashmore would get credited with winning the second heat in a photo finish with Rusnell, ahead of Paul Geniole Jr., Tyler Liscum, Matt Bentley, Mike Weeda, Nick Tooley and Stan Coe.
Nick Tooley would score the victory in the b-main for his first ever career victory ahead of Martin, Everingham and Coe.
Lapcevich had the speed once again, scoring the victory in the ‘Dash for Cash’ ahead of Archibald, Zardo, Cybalski, Rusnell, Geniole Jr., Cashmore, Rankin, Bentley, Morrison, Weeda and Liscum.
Virtue of the random draw, it’d be Mike Weeda starting on pole for the 30-lap feature. The feature didn’t start as Weeda would’ve hoped as he’d get three-wide with Chris Howse and Johnny Morison for the lead, with contact being made and Weeda getting spun, making contact with the inside retaining wall. Weeda would unfortunately be done for the rest of the night.
On the complete restart, it’d be Tyler Liscum on pole in his No. 7 G&S computers, Rental City Orillia, Mario Designs, Ebike Universe and Stonecrete Super Stock ahead of Randy Rusnell, Coltin Everingham, Stan Coe, Lane Zardo, Adam Martin, Dennis Cybalski, Nick Tooley, Matt Bentley, Steve Cashmore, Cayden Lapcevich, Paul Geniole Jr., Dan Archibald, Morrison and Howse.
Rusnell would grab the lead in his No. 72 Travis Ind. Maintaince, Dreamdoodles.net, Cournyeas Poodles, Speedy Auto Service Burling, Spira Fire Protection, J&K Converters Ltd., Partimer Signs, Chetty’s Hot Sauce, Brant Transmission and McCordick Glove & Safety Monte Carlo ahead of Liscum and Zardo as Cybalski battled with Everingham for fourth. However, the green didn’t even get to stay out a full lap as Martin would get sideways off of two directly in the path of Tooley, sending Tooley for the ride over top the front of Martin’s car. Tooley’s team got him back on track for the restart, but Martin would be done for the night.
The third attempt to start the race didn’t prove to be successful, either, as Liscum would spin, collecting Cashmore, Howse and Coe. So now with the cautions in the books, Rusnell would lead ahead of Zardo, Everingham, Bentley, Cashmore, Lapcevich, Howse, Archibald, Morrison, Tooley, Cybalski, Liscum and Geniole Jr. With three failed attempts, track promoter Mark Dilley came down and basically instructed the rest of the restarts to be single-file.
The fourth attempt – thankfully – was successful with Rusnell jumping ahead of Zardo, Bentley and Everingham as Lapcevich and Cashmore raced side-by-side for fifth. Lapcevich would clear Cashmore on lap three to take the spot. he would then get by Everingham to move into fourth on lap four, while Archibald began to look for a way by Cashmore. Archibald was successful, moving into sixth on lap seven.
By lap nine, Rusnell had become to distance himself from Zardo while Bentley and Lapcevich raced side-by-side for third. Lapcevich would clear Bentley on lap 11 ahead of Archibald, Cashmore, Howse, Morrison, Cybalski, Geniole Jr., Everingham, Liscum and Tooley. The top six strung out single-file by lap 12, while Howse, Morrison and Cybalski ran three-wide for seventh. Cybalski grabbed the spot on lap 13 ahead of Morrison, Geniole Jr. and Howse. Geniole Jr. then got alongside Morrison for eighth at lap 16, clearing him at lap 18. At the same time, Tooley would bring his car down pit road under green.
At the front of the field, it was all Randy Rusnell as he led the rest of the 30 lap feature to score his first victory of the season. Lane Zardo finished second, followed by Cayden Lapcevich, Dan Archibald, Matt Bentley, Steve Cashmore, Paul Geniole Jr., Dennis Cybalski, Johnny Morrison, Chris Howse, Tyler Liscum and Coltin Everingham.
