By: Ashley McCubbin — Nicole Podewils made her first appearance of the season on Saturday at Sunset Speedway, showing that time off didn’t mean lost speed as she would finish third in the 25-lap feature.
Podewils kicked off her night by finishing second in her heat, automatically transferring to the ‘Dash for Cash’. She would finish fourth in the 10-lap event, showcasing the speed her mustang was capable of against the top qualifiers.
Per Sunset’s qualifying format, Podewils’ starting spot would be determined by a random Frisbee draw, which placed her in ninth starting spot. Podewils quickly began her march towards the front, though, as she was up to fifth by the first caution at lap three.
On the restart, she’d get by Miles Tyson to move into fourth, getting alongside Jordan Howse a lap later. She would then pass Howse on lap six to move into the third spot. Podewils would spend the rest of the feature chasing Brandon McFerran and Billy Melenhorst, catching them in the final laps, though running out of laps.
