After making the pass for the lead with five laps to go, Dean Curry would hold on the rest of the way as he scored his second feature victory of the season at Barrie Speedway on Saturday night.
The first heat didn’t start off smoothly as Richard Butler went for a spin in turn four on lap five. Justin Holmes would grab the win ahead of Mike Gettliffe, Jamie Cairns, Randi Sequin, Jeremy McLean, Dave Crumbie, Brandon Crumbie, Tim Gagne, Ryan Hardy, Joe Dunlop, Ray LaHay and Butler.
Ryan Toon won the second heat ahead of Doug Butler, Dean Curry, JP Rosevear, Paul Bogensberger Jr., Gil Brooks, Barrie Moore, Josh Inglis and Wil Lamantia.
Dave Crumbie picked up the win in the second heat ahead of Gettliffe, Cairns, Holmes, McLean, Brandon Crumbie, Sequin, Butler and Hardy.
Curry won the final heat ahead of Butler, Toon, Rosevear, Pete Gettliffe, Bogensberger, Inglis, Brooks, Moore, Lamentia and Dave Rice.
When it came time for the feature, Gil Brooks would start pole ahead of Paul Bogensberger Jr., Josh Inglis, Randi Sequin, Dave Crumbie, Ryan Hardy, Richard Butler, Justin Holmes, JP Rosevear, Jamie Cairns, Ryan Toon, Dean Curry, Mike Gettliffe, Doug Butler, Barrie Moore, Ray LaHay, Brandon Crumbie, Will Lamantia, Tim Gagne, Peter Wakeling, Joe Dunlop, Dave Rice, Pete Gettliffe and Jeremy McLean.
Bogensberger took the lead early in his No. 8 Mini Stock on lap one, though Sequin would get alongside him for the lead at lap two. Sequin would clear Bogensberger to his No. 3 Speedy Signs, Nashville North, 400 Transmission, Bubba’s Gun Club, Laura Sequin and Northern Auto Body Nissan out front while Brooks battled Inglis for third. The first caution flew shortly after for Rosevear having a flat tire on the backstretch; both McLean and Brandon Crumbie brought their rides into the pits and were done for the night. With 22 laps to go, Sequin led Bogensberger, Brooks, Dave Crumbie, Inglis, Hardy, Richard Butler, Cairns, Toon, Curry, Mike Gettliffe and Doug Butler.
On the restart, Sequin would grab the lead ahead of Inglis as Hardy and Bogensberger battled for third. Gettliffe would get by them both on lap five to move into third with Hardy now fourth and Bogensberger in fifth. Gettliffe’s climb to the front continued as he passed Inglis for second at lap six. At lap seven, Sequin had a nice lead over Gettliffe, Inglis and Hardy as Bogensberger battled with Dave Crumbie for fifth. Crumbie cleared Bogensberger at lap eight, while Hardy got alongside Inglis for third. Hardy would clear Inglis, bringing Cairns, Butler, Curry, Toon. Cairns would then pass Hardy for third and bring Butler, Curry and Toon with him.
At the front, Gettliffe would get by Sequin for the lead just before the caution would flew at lap 14 for Crumbie going around in turn two while Bogensberger had a flat tire. LaHay would park and be done for the night. With 11 laps to go, Gettliffe’s No. 77 TMX Mechanical and Brimley Automotive ride led Sequin, Cairns, Butler, Curry, Toon, Hardy, Rosevear, Peter Gettliffe, Inglis and Holmes.
On the restart, Mike Gettliffe got the advantage ahead of Cairns and Sequin. Curry would get alongside Sequin for third when the caution came out for Gettliffe stopping in turn two with a flat tire. As a result, Jamie Cairn’s inherited the lead in his No. 63 House to Home Renovations and Lamberts Motors Pontiac Sunfire ahead of Sequin, Curry, Doug Butler, Rosevear, Toon, Hardy, Peter Gettliffe, Inglis, Holmes, Brooks and Richard Butler.
The first attempt at a restart brought forth another caution as Moore spun in turn one.
The second attempt at a restart had Cairns get the advantage ahead of Curry while Sequin battled with Doug Butler for third. Curry would then get alongside Cairns on lap 19, passing him a lap later to put his No. 09 Eagles Oil Tech, Dinsmore Auto Wreckers, RBA Financial, Fox Chrysler and Markdale Salvage Chrysler Neon out front. Butler then got alongside Cairns for second, clearing him on lap 21 with Sequin now fourth.
Butler would try to run down Curry to get the win, but Dean Curry would hold and grabbed the victory. Doug Butler finished second, followed by Jamie Cairns, Randi Sequin, JP Rosevear, Ryan Toon, Justin Holmes, Mike Gettliffe, Ryan Hardy, Dave Crumbie, Richard Butler, Gil Brooks, Tim Gagne and Josh Inglis.
