HEPWORTH, ON- Fresh off of a dominating performance in Round 2 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour at Kawartha Speedway, Andrew Gresel and the Sauble Falls Racing Team are headed for Barrie Speedway intent on capturing back-to-back victories.
“Our win at Kawartha was the most comfortable I’ve ever felt in this car”, said Gresel. “We’ve had this chassis for just over a year now, and from the moment we first practiced it, we’ve been working towards this level of familiarity”
“We feel the same way about this car as we did our Pro Late Model the year we won the Delaware championship”, added Gresel.
The second-generation star has every reason to feel comfortable, after recovering from lap-1 contact at Kawartha en route to leading over half the event, lapping up to the 7th place car.
“We hit our stride at Kawartha”, said Gresel, “and we’re hoping to generate some momentum with a strong run at Barrie. This weekend is important because it’s our last event before the Don Biederman Memorial, which is the race every single Super Late Model driver in Ontario wants to win”
Gresel’s OSCAAR debut at Barrie was impressive, to say the least, as he finished 3rd in what was his second career Super Late Model start.
“I feel a lot more comfortable going to Barrie the second time around”, smiled the current OSCAAR tour point leader. “We had no idea what to expect at Barrie last season. We were debuting a brand new chassis at a speedway that I had virtually no laps at, but it worked out awesome. If we could earn a podium last year in our first night with this chassis, I have all the confidence in the world that we can contend for a win on June 14th”
When asked about his status as OSCAAR point leader, Gresel is quick to mention how many events are remaining in 2014.
“We’re only two weeks in, man”, laughed Gresel. “There’s still 11 races to go. It’s a long season. We’re not counting points just yet. Our plan is to go out and race for the win every night and let the points take care of themselves”
“I think it’s easy for a team to get distracted with what’s happening with the points standings. We prefer to keep things simple at the track. Come out, do our job, and go home”
Round 3 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour is scheduled for this Saturday, June 14th. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.BarrieSpeedway.com
