SHELBURNE, ON- Kevin Cornelius and the KDR Motorsports crew will travel to Barrie Speedway on June 14th, for Round 3 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour.
“I don’t have a whole lot of experience at Barrie”, admitted Cornelius when asked his opinion of the tight 1/3 mile tri-oval, “but it intrigued me when we took the Super Late Model there for the first time last season”
“Based off of its reputation of being tight and unforgiving, I was a touch hesitant”, continued Cornelius. “But, after we got through the night of racing with a top-5, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the speedway”
“It’s a tricky spot to race at, but once you find a comfortable line it’s incredibly racey. It’s a smaller track, so you have to be sure to get up on the wheel from the drop of the green and try to find a place to lay down some consistent laps”
Despite Barrie’s reputation as a track that can be hard on equipment, Cornelius is confident that a strategy based around finesse can be implemented.
“I’ve never been the type to go out and drive through someone”, said the former Ltd. Late Model champion, “if I’m going to pass you, I want it to be because we have the better car”
“I’m not afraid to let someone know I’m knocking on their door, but just because we’re racing a tight track doesn’t give us an excuse to let respect fall by the wayside”
Cornelius will carry added motivation into Round 3 of the tour, after having a top-5 finish taken from him by way of a mechanical DNF in Round 2 at Kawartha Speedway on June 1st.
“This whole team deserves a better finish than what I was able to give them at Kawartha”, explained Cornelius. “My guys and the great staff from Leitch Performance Engines and McColl Racing Enterprises worked nonstop to get us to Kawartha, and I wasn’t able to reward their hard work”
“Hopefully I can make up for that at Barrie. Not only for them, but for our run at the tour championship. We need a good outing to keep the points leaders in our sights and keep the pressure on them”
Round 3 of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour is scheduled for this Saturday, June 14th. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.BarrieSpeedway.com
