BOND HEAD, ON- After a potential top-5 finish was spoiled by late-race contact in Round 2 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour at Kawartha Speedway, sophomore Branden Bullen is more motivated than ever in search of his breakout performance.
“I’ve been ready to get back on track since the moment we loaded up at Kawartha”, explains the third-generation competitor. “We had a great car in Round 2, Dad and the whole team did a great job setting it up, I was bummed out that I couldn’t give them the finish they deserved”
‘The Bond Head’ Bandit ran within the top-3 for much of the day, before late-race contact with Brian McLean in the waning laps of the event relegated Bullen to a 15th place finish.
“I hated that for everybody involved”, winces Bullen, “it definitely wasn’t the way we were looking for our day to end up. It was just a racing deal. I want nothing more than to get back on track at Barrie and make up for the finish we should have had at Kawartha”
“Even though we didn’t have the finish we wanted, our performance at Kawartha really gave us a shot in the arm”, continues the 19-year old. “If we had any doubts about our equipment heading into that race, we got all the reassurance we needed”
After suffering mechanical difficulties in qualifying last season, Bullen is looking forward to making his first career feature start at Barrie.
“We didn’t get too many laps in at Barrie when we were there last, but I know it’s incredibly tight”, says Bullen. “That backstretch doesn’t leave much room for error. I think our whole roster is going to have to play a game of give and take”
“You never want to anticipate a rough race, but I think the first 20-laps will be all about survival”, offers Bullen. “This is the type of race where your spotter becomes your best friend, because it’s as tight as any track we go to on the tour, and things happen there in an awful hurry”
Round 3 of the OSCAAR Modified Tour presented by Hanover Holidays is scheduled for Saturday, June 14th at Barrie Speedway. Gate times and ticket prices are available at www.OSCAAR.ca.
