June 15, 2014. Driver for Canada’s Best Racing Team (CBRT) Joey McColm looked to be on their way to a solid result at round number two of the NASCAR Canadian Tire series at the Autodrome Chaudière this past weekend. Sadly a mechanical failure left the team without that result.
Persistent rains plagued the facility on Saturday so the on track action was rescheduled to Sunday. When the #25 CBRT Dodge hit the track it was fast right out of the gate, posting the second quickest lap time during practice.
“All the boys worked really hard to get this new car ready and we were really happy with the speed we showed early on” said McColm.
The crew continued to work hard seeking improvements and McColm delivered a very good qualifying result and started the 300 lap feature event on the inside of row five.
“Everything was going pretty well and I felt we could be even better during the race as we continued to fine tune” said the driver.
As the green flag waved McColm looked quickly for opportunities to maneuver the #25 CBRT Dodge forward in the field.
“This was a really good track to race on” said McColm. “There two grooves to race and you can really have some good battles out there”.
Not wanting to push the car too hard, too early, McColm settled into a comfortable pace and wanted to preserve his equipment for the end of the race. However a brake line failure would disrupt their plans.
Suddenly without front brakes McColm had no choice but to make an unscheduled pit stop to have the problem repaired.
“It’s tough to take but this kind of thing sometimes happens with a new car” he explained. “I really felt we had a good day ahead of us and that’s what makes this tough to swallow but we learned a lot and we’ll be better the next time out.”
Joey McColm and the #25 CBRT Dodge team are back in action Sunday July 6 at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec.
