Looking to gain as many points as possible towards the Barrie Speedway St. Onge Recreation Pure Stock Championship, Doug Butler would pick up the feature win on Mobil 1 night. It marks Butler’s third victory of the 2014 season.
Justin Holmes would win the first heat ahead of Ryan Hardy, Mike Gettliffe, JP Rosevaar, Ryan Toon, Glenn Lloyd, Paul Bogensberger and Frisco Lapointe.
The second heat wouldn’t go smoothly as Peter Wakeling would go for a spin off of turn four. Dean Curry picked up the win ahead of Jamie Cairns, Randi Sequin, Josh Inglis, Gil Brooks, Will Lamentia and Dave Middel.
Doug Butler would win the third heat ahead of his father Richard, Brandon Crumbie, Dave Crumbie, Jeremy McLean, Tim Gagne and Roy LaHay.
The fourth heat didn’t start off that well as the front row pair of Rosevaar and Bogensberger made contact, causing Rosevaar to spin. Gettliffe won ahead of Holmes, Toon, Rosevaar, Hardy, Bogensberger and Lapointe. Lloyd started the heat, though would pull off with mechanical problems.
Jamie Cairns would pick up his first career heat victory in the fifth heat ahead of Curry. Sequin, Brooks, Inglis, Lamentia, Middel and Wakeling. Middle and Wakeling would have a small incident on the last lap in turns one and two.
Dave Crumbie won the final heat ahead of McLean, Brandon Crumbie, Doug Butler, Gagne, Richard Butler, Lahay and Dave Rice.
Jeremy McLean would start on pole for the feature behind the wheel of his No. 88 JM Painting, Hot Box Chip Stand, The New Duchesnay Store, Junior’s Tire Service, Doug’s Rental, McCabe Masonry, AMJ Campbell Van Lines, See More Graphics and Northland Automotive Nissan 240 SX ahead of teammate Paul Bogensberger, Gil Brooks, Josh Inglis, Tim Gagne, Ryan Hardy, Richard Butler, Dave Crumbie, Randi Sequin, Jamie Cairns, JP Rosevaar, Justin Holmes, Ryan Toon, Dean Curry, Mike Gettliffe, Doug Butler, Roy LaHay, Peter Wakeling, Frisco Lapointe, Dave Rice, Brandon Crumbie, Dave Middel, Will Lamentia and Glenn Lloyd.
McLean jumped out to the early lead ahead of Bogensberger while Brooks and Hardy battled for third. Hardy would clear Brooks on lap two, bringing Richard Butler and Gagne with him. Hardy would run down Bogensberger for second, completing the pass on lap five as Butler ran fourth while Sequin and Rosevaar now battled for fifth. Butler would get sideways off the corner, losing lots of ground as Rosevaar, Sequin and Gettliffe were able to get by. As Butler continued to fall back more spots, Gettliffe continued his climb towards the front, passing Sequin for fifth at lap 9, bringing Gagne with him.
McLean would continue to lead Hardy as the laps ticked away with Rosevaar getting alongside Bogensberger for third at lap 10. Rosevaar completed the pass in the next circuit, bringing Gettliffe with him. Bogensberger continued to slip back as Doug Butler, Sequin, Brandon Crumbie and Justin Holmes also made their way by.
At the front, Gettliffe made his move to get by Rosevaar for fourth, when the pair would make contact resulting in a caution and flat tire for Gettliffe. As a result, both drivers would have to restart at the back of the lead lap cars – Gettliffe receiving pit service before the restart for a new tire. With 11 laps to go, McLean led Hardy, Doug Butler, Sequin, Brandon Crumbie, Bogensberger, Holmes, Cairns, Toon, Dave Crumbie, Curry, Richard Butler, Brooks, Inglis, Gettliffe and Rosevaar.
On the restart, Hardy would grab the lead to put his No. 06 Hardy Transport, Standard Auto Glass Collingwood and Vortex Brake Pads Dodge Neon out front while Doug Butler and McLean battled for second. Butler would clear McLean with 10 to go, leaving him to battle with Sequin for third. Butler then ran down Hardy, getting alongside him and completing the pass to put the No. 10 Cheryl Ferguson Century 21, Hwy 400 Transmission, Grace Doiron RBC Mortgage Specialist, R.S.A Auto Barrie, Mario’s Pizza and Ernie Performance Nissan 240SX out front of the field. Hardy slipped back to second while Sequin and McLean continued to battle for third. McLean would hold Sequin off for the spot, which allowed Holmes to instead make the move on Sequin for fourth. Holmes then got alongside McLean to move into third.
With five laps to go, Butler now led ahead of Hardy, Holmes and McLean while Sequin and Toon battled for fifth. Toon would clear Sequin with 22 to go, allowing Crumbie to get alongside of her. Toon then chased down McLean to look for fourth, while Holmes got alongside Hardy for second.
Though while the rest of the field battled, the top spot clearly belonged to Doug Butler as he would grab the win ahead of Ryan Hardy. For Hardy, it marks his best career finish and first podium of the year. Justin Holmes finished third, followed by Ryan Toon, Brandon Crumbie, Dean Curry, Jeremy McLean, Randi Sequin, Jamie Cairns, Dave Crumbie and Mike Gettliffe.
