NEW HAMBURG, ON- The 2014 season has been full of ups-and-downs for third-year Modified competitor Matt Barton. The former Hurricane Midget standout kick-started his campaign with a head-turning podium finish in Round 1 of the tour at Sunset, before battling an ill-handling car to a 7th place result in Round 3 at Barrie.
On June 28th & 29th, ‘The New Hamburg Nightmare’ will return to Sunset Speedway, alongside the rest of the OSCAAR Modified Tour, in hopes of finding himself back in the top-5, as part of the 16th annual Don Biederman Memorial weekend.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had a race scheduled for Sunset that I haven’t looked forward to”, said Barton when asked about this weekend’s event. “I’m not sure what it is about that place, it just seems to bring out the best in this team”
“It must be something in the water”, added Barton with a smile.
The New Hamburg, ON driver is quick to point out just how much the Don Biederman Memorial weekend means to both the OSCAAR Super Late Model and OSCAAR Modified tours.
“Every year, this is one of the biggest race weekends of the season”, explained Barton. “The Biederman is a race that has every driver – regardless of what tour they run – take their program to the next level. It’s up there with the Velocity and the Autumn Colours Classic on every OSCAAR drivers bucket list. The prestige is second to none. And Sunset’s an awesome facility that absolutely packs the fans in”
Barton hopes a trip to Sunset will help his MDB Racecars team find their rhythm once more, after a frustrating outing at Barrie Speedway on June 14th.
“We had an ‘off night’ at Barrie. There’s not really any other way to put it”, said the second-generation driver matter-of-factly. “We fought the car all day long, and really just didn’t have the outing we were looking for”
“With that being said, I think a trip to Sunset could be just what the doctor ordered. Hopefully we can remember the quick way around the joint, and find a way to put this car back up front”
Matt Barton’s MDB Racecars chassis is sponsored by MDB Racecars and The Merit Group. Fans can follow ‘The New Hamburg Nightmare’ on Twitter @Matt_Barton2.
