After a win at Sauble Speedway on Wednesday, Billy and the #86 crew headed to Delaware Speedway just two days later for what would be four races in just five days. Scotty also changed the rear gears in his #44 to join Billy at the half mile speedway for the Ontario Open Four Cylinder Invitational. Four practice sessions were plenty to dial in both cars to the
high banked speedway that produced speeds in excess of 130km/hr going into the tight corners for the four cylinder machines.
Scott started 3rd and Billy 13th in the first of two heat races and after going three wide in the first lap, Scott pulled into 2nd as Billy charged through the field into 3rd on the next. On the 3rd lap, Scott was side by side with the #21 for the lead, however the #21 pulled ahead despite Billy giving his teammate a pretty good push down the straightaways. On the final lap, Billy took over 2nd from Scott, however it was the #21 that got the win, followed by Billy and Scott. Both drivers had a blast running the race and Scott was loving his first ever
visit to the speedway. In the 2nd heat race, Billy would start on the pole with Scott 9th and as Billy remained up front, Scott took his turn charging through the field to move into 3rd on the second lap, behind the #21. Billy and the #21 put on a show up front as they ran side by side, exchanging positions throughout the race and then it was Billy who was awarded the win by inches at the line with Scott behind in 3rd
.
After Scott started the 30 lap feature in 5th and Billy in 7th, Billy cleared the field with some great three wide racing to get into the lead by lap three as Scott ran side by side with the #21 behind him. The three cars pulled away up front where the #21 took over the lead on lap 7, however Billy was glued to his tail and on the 10th lap moved inside the #21 to start a side by side battle for the lead. On lap 12, Billy got a little loose in turn two, as did the #21 and as the #21 corrected his car, made contact with the right rear tire on the #86, cutting down the tire, causing him to spin and bring out the caution. Billy brought the car into the pits, where the combined crew from the #86 and #44 teams quickly had the tire changed and Billy was back on the track in plenty of time for the restart. Billy and the #21 would start at the back of the field as Scott took over the lead up front for the restart. Two laps later, Billy and the #21 had diced their way through the field and made their way into 3rd and 4th with Billy leading the charge. As they reached the half way point, the #21 took over up front as the two cars went by Scott, putting him into 3rd. The #21, Billy and Scott moved ahead of the field for the final ten laps and despite Billy driving the wheels off the #86 and being glued to the bumper of the #21, the #21 would cross the line for the win with Billy at his quarter panel in 2nd and Scott 3rd. The second place finish is Billy’s fourth at Delaware Speedway as he continues to chase the much desired win at the high speed track.
