After returning to the race shop at 1:30am from Sauble Speedway, the #86 team grabbed a few hours of sleep and then were up to change the car over with the rear gears required at the larger Kawartha Speedway track. After servicing and loading the car, the team was on the road at 8:00am and heading east to Kawartha Speedway for the 2nd Mini-Sock Nationals event of the season. In the 1st event that was held on June 1st, Billy finished a disappointing 9th and it was the teams hope that a re-freshened motor would make the difference to haul the #86 closer to the front.
The car was handling pretty good in the first practice session, with just a minor loose in condition that the crew worked on to minimize, however it was more the change that the driver made as he drove into the corners that eliminated the problem.
Billy started 4th in his first heat race, behind the #6, #35x and #54, moved up to run side by side with the #35x by the half way point and then pulled into the lead for the final three laps to get the win. The #86 was on the outside pole for the second heat and was into the lead on the first lap, where Billy lead all ten laps to get his second win of the day.
Using a points system that included passing cars to line up the feature, Billy would start 6th for the 30 lap feature event behind the #36, #54, #35x, #35k (the June 7th winner) and the #64 of Brandon McFerran who is the current points leader at Sunset Speedway. The #86 moved by the #64 on the 2nd lap into 5th and then into 4th by the 5th lap as the #54 lead the field, followed by the #35k. After a caution on the 10th lap, the #35k took over the lead from the #54 at the half way mark and they were followed by Billy in 3rd. Billy did manage to pass the #54 and was running in 2nd, however multiple cautions swapped positions between the #54 and #86 multiple times as the #35k remained out front. With ten laps remaining, the #54 was on the bumper of the #35k and Billy was trying to find a way to slingshot by both of them, however they were both hugging the bottom lane that is the fastest
way around the ½ mile speedway. As they took the white flag for the final lap and entered the final, turn three and four corner, the #35k and #54 opened up the bottom lane just
enough that Billy could dive the #86 into the inside lane. The final turn move worked to take the position away from the #54, however despite getting up beside the #35k as they crossed the line, Billy was about ten feet short of making the pass and getting the win.
