After watching the Limited Late Models and Mini Stocks attack the track last Thursday night, the Super Stocks are set to begin their Short Track Play-off season with a 50 lap feature at Sunset Speedway this weekend. The line-up for this race is top notch with drivers that are capable of winning from top to bottom. Without a doubt, this will be one of those classic do not miss races.
Cayden Lapcevich heads into this event after scoring the track championship with four feature victories, including a thrilling 50 lap feature victory to cap off the season. Lapcevich started at the rear and drove his way through to take the lead with 10 laps to go. Needless to say, the Spring Derby 50 winner will be one to watch.
Defending race winner Randy Rusnell is hoping to get back to victory lane after coming up short last weekend with a second place finish. ‘The Rocket’ had a solid season this year as he won some features en route to finishing second in points. He also knows how to turn up the heat in the Playoffs, but will it be enough this weekend?
Lane Zardo didn’t have the season that he was looking for as bad luck plagued his championship run. Still, ‘The Thrillbilly’ was able to visit victory lane a couple times en route to finishing third in points. Looking to sell the car and move on to other racing endeavors, it’d be a great advertisement if he was able to win. Even if he isn’t able to win, though, if you’re looking to get into the Super Stock division – get in touch with him.
Paul Geniole Jr. had a solid sophomore season at Sunset Speedway that saw him gain speed with each passing week. A past Sunset Speedway feature winner, Geniole will hope to put an exclamation mark on the year.
Paul Howse made the move to Sunset Speedway this season and had a solid year with a couple top-five finishes across the season. After showing improvement as the year went on, it’ll be interesting to see how he matches up against the best of the best.
Coltin Everingham put together a solid sophomore season, avoiding trouble for the most part en route to posting some solid performances. He will be looking for a solid top 10 finish this weekend to keep growing as a driver. However, it’ll be interesting to see how things go as his father Wally Everingham will be in the field racing against him. Within the family, who’s going to top the charts?
After seeing his weekend at Barrie Speedway cut short by rain, Kevin Reynolds will be making his first Sunset Speedway appearance behind the wheel of the No. 7 for Craig Ellis. The car ran at Sunset all year with Tyler Liscum behind the wheel, posting a string of solid finishes. How will Reynolds fair? We’ll see.
Nick Tooley has continued to get stronger as a driver in his sophomore season at Sunset Speedway and no doubt will be looking to make the 28-car field this weekend. Tooley was set to qualify last year, but missed the show as a result of a wreck in the last chance race. Can he avoid trouble this year? Another young driver that will be looking for more laps to continue improving is Adam Martin as he continues to get used to driving a Super Stock.
Dennis Cybalski showed speed and promise this year, but didn’t see the pieces come together for a solid performance. Can he get the pieces to work together this weekend?
Dan Archibald showed a ton of speed this year, though found himself in the midst of some controversy. If he has the speed, he can put together a run for the victory. But will he be able to avoid trouble?
Johnny Morrison got quicker with each run this season and near the end of the year, he was posting top-five finishes. It’d be huge for the young driver if he is able to pull of a top-five finish this weekend. However, if he pulls off a win – call that your breakout moment!
Steve Slaughter Jr. will be making his return behind the wheel in a Weeda Racing entry. Slaughter Jr. has multiple laps and victories at Sunset Speedway in the Super Stock ranks so it’ll be interesting to see how he adjusts to being back behind the wheel.
Matt Bentley has visited feature victory lane and led multiple laps this season since debuting his new car. No doubt he will be a threat to win as he knows how to win the big events at Sunset Speedway. Other Sunset Speedway regulars expected to be in attendance, most likely, are Paul Maltese, Stan Coe and Donny Munce.
Barrie Speedway regular Ryan Semple has a bunch of laps at Sunset Speedway and knows how to pick up a heat victory. No doubt he should have speed this weekend and be one driver to keep your eye on. Mike Meyer is expected to also be in attendance, with the possibility of Desi Walt also racing.
2014 Barrie Speedway Rookie of the Year Jordan Latimer is set to make his third trip to Sunset Speedway. The young driver wants to get experience running in bigger fields and seeing where he stacks up. He had a good run going in the last invitational, though fell short as a result of mechanical issues. He’ll be joined by fellow Barrie younggun Bryan Penny, who is hoping to put together a good run after missing the last couple nights of Barrie’s season.
Peterborough Speedway regular Donny Beatty has confirmed that he will be in attendance. Donny also has multiple laps at Sunset Speedway and with a quick car underneath him, keep your eyes peered. He’ll be joined by fellow Pete regulars Brad Lavalle and Tom Podd, as well as possibly Daryl Fice and Ross Evans.
2014 Sauble Speedway Champion Ken Grubb will lead a group of Sauble cars into this weekend that include Joe Adams, Todd Davenport and Jason Legge. These four – keep your eye on them. Sauble Speedway has had hosted some of the quickest Super Stocks in the entire province in the past and no doubt it’d be no surprise if one of these drivers grace victory lane.
Flamboro Speedway standout Shawn Chenoweth is hoping to post another top-five finish after a solid run in the invitational earlier this year, that was highlighted by a heat win. Chenoweth has won a feature at Sunset in the past and will be doing double duty this weekend in running a OSCAAR Super Late Model as well.
Delaware Speedway will also be represented with Jordan Lawrence and Gary Adriaensen making their Sunset debuts. Both drivers are fast at their home track and it’ll be interesting to see how quickly they adjust to Sunset Speedway.
