After putting on one helluva show with the Frequent Flyer 50 last Thursday night, the Mini Stocks returned to Sunset Speedway in hopes of putting on another great performance.
Frequent Flyer 50 winner Andy Kamrath won the first heat ahead of Sunset regulars Jordan Howse and Jake Watson, while 2013 Barrie Speedway Champion Mike Gettliffe finished fourth. Full Throttle Speedway regular Paul Boyd finished fifth, followed by Charlie Smith, Peter Gettliffe, Tim Tolton, Brian Wilson, Stefan Woyslaw, Nick Clarke and Jerry Noble.
Sunset Speedway regular Terry Woodley won the second heat ahead of Barrie Speedway’s Ryan Toon. Nic Montanari finished third as he led a slew of Sunset regulars across the line that included Chandler Bois, Treyten Lapcevich, Dave Middel, Wendy Adams and Eric Rainey. Phil Givens finished ninth, ahead of Dave Collins and James Horner.
The third heat would feature a quick caution when Kendra Adams would spin in turn four after getting loose, with Justin Holmes and Warren Paxton making contact behind her. 2012 Sunset Speedway Champion Eric Yorke picked up the win ahead of fellow Sunset regulars Samantha Shaw, Ben Melenhorst, Miles Tyson, Gerritt Tiemersma and Warren Paxton. Barrie’s Justin Holmes finished seventh ahead of Gehrig Halliday and Candiss Everingham.
The fourth heat featured a small scare when Steve Belanger would catch fire. Thankfully, the fire would be put out quickly and he would be okay. 2014 Sauble Speedway Champion Billy Schwartzenburg picked up the victory ahead of Peterborough Speedway Late Model regular Bryan Sudsbury, Flamboro regular Chad Corcoran, Sunset regular Ken Townsend and Full Throttle regular Scott Schueleter. Sunset regular Trevor Hemingway finished sixth ahead of the 28, Danny Benedict and Travis McLean.
The fifth heat wasn’t clean as Woyslaw would spin in turn two with two laps to go. Then on the restart, Watson would spin Smith in turn three, though Watson also had Howse leaning on him for position. Andy Kamrath went for the daily double ahead of Howse, Mike Gettliffe, Clarke, Tolton, Wilson, Boyd, Noble, Watson, Woyslaw and Peter Gettliffe.
Terry Woodley would go for the daily double in the sixth heat ahead of Toon, Bois, Givens, Montanari, Rainey, Wendy Adams, Lapcevich, Horner and Collins. Middle would head down pit road with two laps to go.
Craig Kamrath would have a flat tire on lap five while Warren Paxton took the victory ahead of Holmes, Yorke, Melenhorst, Tyson, Shaw, Halliday, Tiemersma and Kendra Adams.
The final heat featured a caution on lap three when Rosevear would go for the spin. Chad Corcoran grabbed the victory ahead of Benedict, Sudsbury, Schwartzenburg, Schueleter, Townsend, Hemingway, Rosevear and McLean.
With qualifying in the books, the drivers will now look towards the 30 lap feature – if they made it in through the top 16 – or try to get through the last chance to qualify. All the racing action that includes the Late Models, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, OSCAAR Hanover Holiday Modifieds and OSCAAR Super Late Models is set to start at 1pm EST.
