INNISFIL, Ontario – After throwing a twist in the midst of the weekend, the Walt Motorsports team would use the Velocity 250 weekend as a learning experience leading into 2015.
Jeff Walt would run the No. 31 Late Model on Saturday in the qualifying races, finishing third in his first heat before placing fourth in the second heat. As a result, it would set him up with a solid starting spot for the 75 lap feature on Sunday.
On Sunday, starting up front, Jeff Walt would start the event, though would climb out of the car under the first caution on lap two to give way to Rick Walt. Restarting 21st, the team was looking to gain ground and quickly.
Throughout the rest of the feature, things wouldn’t go as well as hoped as a couple issues would result in multiple trips down pit road under under the first few cautions to discover the problem. Being only the team’s second trip to Sunset Speedway this year and trying out a car that had been purchased in August, the team used the race as a learning experience to discover what the car wanted from them to be stronger. As the race went on, Walt’s lap times did improve and he was running equal to the leaders, however was trapped a couple laps down in the process.

With that experience under their belt, Rick Walt and company are focused on heading to the Autumn Colors Classic at Peterborough Speedway and having a strong run. Walt ran the ACC in the Thunder Car division last year and was running inside the top 10 in the late going, before an incident took him out of the running. The team also knows their capable after finishing second in Barrie Speedway’s track points with nine feature victories on the season.
