McClure Looking to Finish Season Off Strong with Solid Finishes at Last Three Venues:After wrecking shortly before the halfway point resulting in a disappointing finish at Charlotte, McClure is eager to finish the 2014 season on a high note beginning with this weekend’s event at Texas Motor Speedway. In 15 starts, the Virginia driver has completed 87.9% of the total laps raced and his best finish at the 1.5-mile speedway came in 2009 when he posted a 19th-place finish. Earlier this year, when the series made its first stop at TMS, the team posted a 24th-place finish.
McClure’s thoughts on Texas: “I’m excited to get to Texas. It has always been one of my favorite tracks. We had a decent run in the spring, maybe a little bit better than how we finished. We had a good day at Kansas and I was encouraged about our Charlotte race up until the accident. We’re bringing out a different car which is something we’re looking forward to working on and trying to finish our year as strong as we can.”
No. 14 Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® Camry: Crew Chief Wes Ward has selected chassis No. 122 for this weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge. This chassis was purchased from Joe Gibbs Racing earlier this season and its first race for TriStar Motorsports will be this weekend.
McClure Honors Life of Damon Swarthout at TMS: In 2012, at Kansas Speedway, McClure hosted two young boys who were batting a rare form of childhood cancer. Since that time both Isaac (Corter) and Damon (Swarthout) have passed away; Damon the most recent (October 23, 2014). McClure, who paid tribute to Isaac in November 2012, will honor Damon this weekend at TMS by running a decal on the c-post of his No. 14 Toyota. Both Corter and Swarthout brought inspiration to the team and their smiles will never be forgotten.
McClure Announces New Addition to Family in a Disney-Themed Way: On Monday, McClure and his wife Miranda announced they are expecting baby No. 6 in May 2015. Check out their announcement here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Fun Fact: Have you ever been to a World Series game? In honor of this year’s Fall Classic, McClure shared a memory of the time he was able to attend game five in 1991, which was won by his beloved Atlanta Braves. He sat 14 rows behind first base and a notable moment for McClure was when (Mark) Lemke hit a triple. Lemke was a favorite for McClure on that team because he played second base which was McClure’s position until he finished playing during his freshman season in college.
