The Morrow (Ga.) Police Department announced that an arrest warrant has been issued in the theft of Team Xtreme’s No. 44 Sprint Cup Series car.
Sgt. Larry Oglesby told NASCAR Talk that they issued the warrant on Friday, and it was for a person of interest in the case who declined to be interviewed. Oglesby says he has talked to the person’s attorney.
The racecar, along with a ford pickup truck and trailer, was stolen from a hotel parking lot on February 27th in the early morning hours. Travis Kvapil was supposed to drive the car at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The surveillance camera recorded a Jeep Cherokee pulling into the parking lot, with a person getting out of hte passenger side of the vehicle. That person then entered the pickup and drove off. The racecar was recovered a day later, with the pickup later being discovered in Stockbridge, Georgia. The trailer remains missing, along with the team’s spare race engine and various tools.
The theft forced Team Xtreme to withdraw from the race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. They were at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but failed to qualify.
