Cole Powell
No. 58 Tricar / Gary Yeomans Ford
Talladega Superspeedway
May 1, 2015
Welcome to the team Cole… This will be Cole’s first race with Lira Motorsports, and his first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Talladega Superspeedway. With Michael Lira a little over two months from his 18th birthday and thus not able to race at Talladega, the team is excited to have Cole step in and take the reigns of the no. 58 Ford Fusion at the 2.66 mile Alabama tri-oval. Cole has two previous starts in the ARCA Series, both at Daytona International Speedway (2014 and 2015).
Welcome Tricar Group… This will be the Tricar Group’s first race as a sponsor with Lira Motorsports. The Tricar Group is a leader in luxury condo and rental suites throughout Southwestern Ontario. They have been developing and managing award winning multi-family high-rise buildings for almost 30 years. Their impressive portfolio includes over 5000 quality homes, and their innovative and high quality craftsmanship have earned them numerous awards for architecture and design excellence.
Welcome to the top ten in owner points… Off of the strength of a solid finish in the Federated Auto Parts 200 at Salem Speedway last weekend, the number 58 Lira Motorsports Ford has climbed to 9th in ARCA Series owner points standings. With provisional positions for qualifying being set by current owner points for the rest of this year, as opposed to 2014 points, the team is excited to be in the top ten. Rain has been a factor on qualifying day in two of the first four races this year.
Gary Yeomans Ford keys to victory… All drivers racing at Talladega have the same goal, and that is to avoid ‘the big one’. Big wrecks that can take out ten or more cars are an unpredictable part of high speed racing on the 2.66-mile tri-oval. The 2014 ARCA Series race at Talladega was the exception, with only one caution for a two car incident. In most previous years there have been large, multi-car wrecks in each race, in addition to other caution periods. Avoiding ‘the big one’ is the Gary Yeomans Ford key to victory for Cole at Talladega.
Cole Powell on Talladega Superspeedway: “I’m really excited to get back behind the wheel in the ARCA Series, especially with my new team, Lira Motorsports. I can’t wait to get after it at Talladega!! I appreciate the support of Tricar, Ford Performance and Gary Yeomans Ford Lincoln in Daytona Beach which made this possible.”
Details… Practice for the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 is on Friday, May 1st from 8:30-10:20am. Qualifying begins at 2:30 in the afternoon, followed by the green flag at 5:00pm (all times Central Daylight Time). The race will be televised live on Fox Sports 1.
