Race car driver David Levine will spend some time visiting with young patients at ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital on May 15, 2015. A competitor in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, the Highland Park, IL racer will be in town for the series annual race at Toledo Speedway taking place on May 17th.
David was born with a ventricular septal defect, and had open heart surgery when he was just four months old. Now 21 years old, David is a recent college graduate, and also a professional race car driver. Currently in his first full-year of ARCA competition, he is tied for the lead in the series Rookie Challenge standing, and is currently ranked second in the overall driver points standings.
Whenever he can on race weekends, David likes to stop by area hospitals, wearing his full driver’s suit, to visit with children and share autographed racing photos and stories. “I am really honored to share my personal heart story, not only to raise awareness about congenital heart defects, but also to let my racing fans know just how important living a healthy lifestyle is at any age,” says Levine.
He will continue to share his personal heart story at several more hospitals this year, as he criss-crosses the country with his family and his Lira Motorsports racing team. He has visited children in hospitals for the past several years, and started his own campaign, DriveForHeart.org, in 2012. The campaign aims to raise awareness about heart health among young adults, and raise funds for research into the causes of, and potential cures for, congenital heart defects.
David will be available at the hospital for media interviews at 1:30pm. He will be visiting with children beginning at 2:00pm. The ARCA Racing Series Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care at Toledo Speedway is Sunday, May 17th at 2:00pm.
