NEW CASTLE, Ind.—May 14, 2015— In baseball terms, Tracy Hines batted .500 last season at Gas City I-69 Speedway in his home state of Indiana with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He was victorious at the always racy bullring in the spring and finished fourth at the track during Indiana Sprint Week. He looks to continue his recent surge at Gas City this weekend, as the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series makes their first of two visits in 2015 to the venue in Northeast Indiana.
The “May Meltdown” for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at Gas City I-69 Speedway is set for Friday, May 15, and will feature a full racing program.
In 2014, Hines was victorious with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at Gas City in the spring race. He took the lead on lap-25 and would pace the remainder of the 30-lap contest aboard The Carolina Nut Company DRC. During Indiana Sprint Week last year, Hines finished fourth at the semi-banked, quarter-mile. In his career at Gas City I-69 Speedway, the 2002 Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series champion has won a total of three times in USAC competition.
“We seem to have Gas City figured out pretty well,” said Hines. “Last year we got our first win of the season there, so to repeat that would be great, especially with the busy time of the season just around the corner. Gas City has always put on good shows, so hopefully the fans come out and support it. We’re glad to see racing there again, after some uncertainly last season.”
Hines raced at the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio last weekend in what was billed as the “Mother of All Sprint Car Weekends,” featuring both the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Hines finished fifth in the opener of the two-night event and was third in the finale, which saw a last lap pass for the win.
“We could stay right with them, but lapped traffic made a huge difference tonight and let them get away a little late in the race,” said Hines after Saturday night’s race. “Our package has been really consistently fast lately with so much grip, so I’m just trying to keep it free enough. It was tough to do much with guys as fast as it was, so you kind of had to hold your ground a lot. I was watching to see those guys have an issue with the cushion at some point, and give myself some room to avoid them and move past. We’ll just keep our mind straight and keep digging,”
Entering this weekend’s Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series event at Gas City I-69 Speedway, Hines is seventh in the series standings, just 19 points out of the top-five. He has nine top-10 finishes in 12 starts, with five of those being top-five performances.
Hines is in the midst of another season that will see him compete in all three USAC National series. When time allows, he will also compete in a limited number of 410-winged sprint car races.
