Sweeps To Win From Pole; Montano Takes Mexico Poins Lead
QUERETARO — Rodrigo Peralta turned in a dominating performance Sunday at Autódromo del Ecocentro de la Unión Ganadera en route to his second career NASCAR Mexico Series victory.
The 27-year-old from Mexico City won the pole and race for the support division race, the Mexico Pro Series, Sunday morning.
He then turned around and won the pole and the Promo Race 200 Sunday afternoon.
Peralta kept the No. 24 Alcatel One Touch/Cinemex Ford in front, holding off Hugo Oliveras’ No. 11 MONSTER Engergy/Toyota/3M Toyota by .245 seconds.
Santiago Tovar finished third, the first career podium for the 2013 rookie of the year.
Luis Felipe Montano finished fourth to take over the championship points lead after four races. He leads Irwin Vences by seven and Ruben Garcia Jr. by 11.
Ruben Pardo, who entered the race as the points leader, finished 24th after a skirmish with Peralta for the lead and dropped to fifth in points.
Rogelio Lopez was fifth in Sunday’s race, followed by Abraham Calderón, Homero Richards, Garcia Jr., Irwin Vences and Ruben Rovelo.
The race completed 154 laps around the .79-mile course in the two-hour time limit.
Peralta’s first career win came at Aguascalientes in October of 2013.
The next race of NASCAR Mexico Series May 31 at Autodromo Miguel E. Abed in Puebla.
