Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS), is set to make his first laps around the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway for Cunningham Motorsports in the No. 22 AdvoCare Ford for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards on June 6..
Hailing from Knoxville, Tenn., Bayne has made 69 career NSCS starts since 2010. In addition, Bayne has 151 NASCAR XFINITY Series starts with two wins and 24 top-five finishes, however, he has yet to make a start at “The Tricky Triangle.”
As a Roush Fenway ARCA Series driver development team, Cunningham Motorsports is an ideal fit for Bayne to gain valuable experience at the triangular track. . Bayne will pilot the Paul Andrews-led Ford in his first career ARCA Series start. Andrews has a strong racing resume, as he was the NSCS championship winning crew chief for Alan Kulwicki in 1992.
Bayne won the 2011 Daytona 500, making him the youngest Daytona 500 champion in NASCAR history. Bayne is currently competing in his first full-time NSCS season in the AdvoCare Ford for Roush Fenway.
Bayne, who has been racing for 19 years, began racing the go-kart circuit when he was five years old, where he earned three World Championships, over 300 feature wins and 18 Track or State Championships. After eight seasons racing go-karts, the Knoxville, Tenn. native made the move up to the Allison Legacy Series, where he ran for two years before progressing to the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Southern Division. In both the Allison Legacy Series and the Pro Cup Series, Bayne became the youngest driver to earn the series’ top rookie honor.
In 2008, at the age of 17, Bayne was signed as a development driver for Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Series. He quickly moved into the XFINITY Series the following year with Michael Waltrip Racing. With seven races remaining in the 2010 XFINITY season, Bayne joined Roush Fenway Racing, where he went on to earn victories at Texas Motor Speedway in Nov. 2011 and at Iowa Speedway in May 2013.
During the 2015 season, Bayne is concentrating all of his efforts on the NSCS. With limited tests available to the NSCS drivers, the Roush Fenway driver will gain valuable seat time running the ARCA Series race on Saturday, prior to his NSCS Pocono debut on Sunday. The Pocono ARCA 200 will be televised live on Fox Sports 2.
