Toledo Post Race Notes – David Levine / Lira Motorsports
David Levine and the Lira Motorsports number 59 team traveled to Toledo Speedway for the Menards 200 Presented by Federated Car Care this past weekend. It was David’s first time on the home track of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards.
The weekend started with Saturday’s two practice sessions being modified into one 70 minute session, due to rain. David ran a few laps at the beginning of practice, but developed a transmission problem and pulled into the garage for the crew to go to work.
The Lira Motorsports crew made the repairs, and David was able to get back on the track and make a few more laps during the practice session to dial in his Ford Performance Ford Fusion. He was able to click off a fast lap time of 17.012 seconds, earning him the sixteenth position at the end of the practice session.
In qualifying, his lap time of 16.538 seconds secured him the 11th position in the 30 car starting grid. “That’s not bad for only 15 laps in practice,” said Levine. “I think we have a fast Ford Performance Ford Fusion and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”
On Sunday, the race was red flagged for a brief downpour shortly after the start. After track drying, the race resumed with Levine running in the 14th position. By lap 80 David had raced into the top ten.
Lap 88 brought out a caution, and Levine brought the number 59 to pit road for service and a small handling adjustment. At the halfway point Levine was running in the 12th spot. After the leaders were collected in a late-race wreck, the event finished with a 14 lap shootout to the checkered flag.
The number 59 Ford Perfomance / TraqGear Ford Fusion crossed the stripe in the 9th position, giving Levine his fourth top-10 finish of his ARCA Racing career.
“The car came home in one piece. That’s good, and it was a good points day. I can’t wait until New Jersey Motorsports Park next week,” said David. “I’m looking forward to visiting the track, and using my road-course experience to gain more ground in the points standings.
