NEWTON, Iowa (May 18th) — Just a week after being reinstated to the NASCAR Next class, Austin Hill returned to the racetrack for the Casey’s General Store 150 at Iowa Speedway — a combination race between the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West divisions – and recorded his seventh straight top ten finish.
After starting ninth, the four-time K&N Pro Series East winner Hill went on a downward slide – falling as low as the 15th spot — before rebounding to finish in the 10th position overall (and seventh among the K&N Pro Series East racers). “We definitely had our struggles in Iowa,” Hill said following the race. “We had a very tight car through practice and it got progressively worse throughout the race. I cannot thank this No. 22 A&D Welding Don Rich Ford team enough though. We just have to go back to the drawing board and see what we missed.” Following the finish, the No. 22 A&D Welding Don Rich Ford team now sits second in the K&N Pro Series East championship standings, just 14 markers behind points leader William Byron, who finished second in the event. Despite the slip back in the standings the past two races, the Winston, Georgia native remains focused and inspired to reach his ultimate goal – winning the championship. “We lost a good bit to the point’s leader in Iowa,” Hill expressed. “But as long as we can start winning some races then we can cut into that margin and get back on top.” With the combination race completed, Hill will head back to Bowman Gray Stadium at the end of this month for the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150, round five on the K&N Pro Series East schedule. “I am excited about going to Bowman Gray this season,” Hill explained. “We finished third there last season, so I am definitely hoping to pick up a win there and make up for the deficit in the standings.” |
