Canadian Turns Sights to Spa Eurocup Outing Next Weekend
Toronto, Ontario (May 24, 2015) – Round 2 of the 2015 Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup Series (NEC) proved to be a difficult one for Canada’s Luke Chudleigh as the Fortec Motorsports racer made his track debut at the Silverstone International Circuit in England, 23rd-24th May.
An 18th place finish in Saturday’s race, placing him as top North American in the field, was followed by an opening lap retirement on Sunday as a block from Russia’s Nikita Mazepin at Turn One resulted in contact and an immediate DNF for the 20-year-old Milton racer.
Chudleigh arrived at Silverstone looking to build on a top-ten finish from the first round of NEC competition held last month in Italy. Ultimately the weekend didn’t go to plan with Luke chasing pace having had to deal with mixed conditions in Friday’spractice sessions with one dry outing and one wet.
Switzerland’s Louis Deletraz, competing for Josef Kaufmann Racing, won both races maintaining his position at the head of the Driver Standings with three wins in four starts.
Luke’s attention now turns to Round 2 of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series in a week’s time at the illustrious Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in Belgium, 29th-31st May, one of Formula One’s historic European venues and a firm driver favourite.
“Unfortunately there’s really not much to say from my first starts at Silverstone,” stated Chudleigh after Sunday’s disappointing DNF. “We had some bad luck today after I made a great start off the line but given the rollercoaster nature of the weekend it was perhaps inevitable. Silverstone’s a great track to drive, it’s undoubtedly a challenge but I enjoyed being here. Naturally I hoped to come away with so much more but it wasn’t to be.
“Regardless, I don’t have time to dwell on things as I’m back in Eurocup competition next weekend. I’m really looking forward to getting back to Spa. I know the track well. I’ve got a ton of mileage under my belt in Belgium having raced there in the ALPS series over the past couple of seasons. That’ll prove useful and certainly gives me added confidence in bouncing back from this weekend.”
Chudleigh’s dual schedule with Fortec Motorsports will see him back in NEC action in Round 3 at Austria’s Red Bull Ring, 6th-7th June.
