FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
David Levine: ARCA 150 presented by Unique Pretzels at New Jersey Motorsports Park Post-Race Report
Former sports car racer David Levine entered the weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park with more road course experience than most of the drivers in the 29 car ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards starting field. Unfortunately, mechanical issues that struck just short of midway in the race kept the 21-year old Highland Park, IL driver from capitalizing on his experience advantage.
The weekend started well for David, with a very fast Lira Motorsports TraqGear / Momo / Ford Performance Ford Fusion in both of Saturday’s practice sessions. David posted the third fastest lap time in the first session, and the fourth fastest time in the final practice session for the ARCA 150 presented by Unique Pretzels.
In qualifying, David turned in a solid 6th place performance, despite suffering from an engine issue during the first lap of his ARCA Racing group qualifying session. It was discovered later that he was running on only seven cylinders for most of the session. Engines repairs were made Sunday morning, moving David to the back of the pack for the start of the race.
David had raced his way inside the top ten by lap 11, and was inside the top five when his mechanical issues began.
After the race, David explained; “We broke the control arm while fighting for position with another car. We got that fixed, losing only 5 laps. Then we lost the universal/driveshaft 3 laps later. We were running 4th at the time.”
David was credited with a 18th place finish for the race. Despite the finish, he maintained his position of 5th in the overall driver points standings.
“Nothing we could have done to change the result. Some things out of our control,” David commented. “Massive thanks to Sam Schram, Carlos Lira, Amanda Lira, Terry Earwood and everyone else who helped make this weekend happen. We had a fast car all weekend long. Can’t complain about that. We will be back at Pocono in a few weeks.”
David and his Lira Motorsports team return to action at Pocono Raceway on June 6th for the Pocono ARCA 200, with live race coverage on Fox Sports 2.
