Varney ON – For the first time this season the temperature on the thermometer matched the action on the track at Full Throttle Motor Speedway. With increasing car counts fans were treated to yet another week of outstanding door handle to door handle racing edge of your seat action.
Fun Stocks lead the way with an impressive 20 car field, and considering this is deemed an entry level case you wouldn’t know it by the driving talent. On more than one occasion cars would get sideways or spinout yet all the other drivers would manage to avoid causing a major wreak. Feature one would see #84 Andrea Parsons from Clifford bring her Cavalier from the third row on the starting grid to the lead by halfway in this race and never look back. She was challenged by Victory Lane regular #9 Sandy Eccles from Mount Forest but all he could do was watch as #84 Parsons would take her first checker of the 2015 season, followed by #9 Eccles, third would go to #34 Alex Hastie from Durham, fourth #25 Brain Wilson from Rockwood and rounding out the top five would be #48 John Green from Drayton. Feature two would see last season’s points champion #14 Luke Bos from Conn start from the outside pole and finally get the run he has been looking for this season as he was able to bring home his first checker of the season. Second would go to #84 Parsons as she was able to come from near the rear of the field and put herself in a position to almost take two in a row. Third would go to #9 Sandy Eccles, fourth #48 John Green and coming in fifth #4 Dawson Urbanek from Holyrood with his best finish to date in his rookie season.
This night also featured the Jr Late Models and Mini Trucks both putting on a show for the fans as these young and not so young drivers would test their skills on the highbanks. In the Jr Late Model class it would the #14 Cody Wilds from Exeter taking home both features as some prerace testing earlier in the afternoon paid off dearly finding the best line to run. Runner up in both features would be #25 Travis Placzek from Grand Valley as he is steadily improving each and every week on the track. In the Mini Truck class it was the not so young drivers who put on the show as track owner Gord Bennett would strap into his customary #67 and bring home the first feature over #88 Bubba Brown from London, but Brown was up for the challenge in feature two taking the lead from Bennett and did not look back taking feature two.
Thunder Cars paid their first visit of the season to Full Throttle with the majority of the drivers coming from well outside of the area to take part. In Feature one it was #31 Kevin Gallant from Freelton who had not run this track in 20 years bringing home the first checker. He was followed by #17 Tristan Gill from Waterloo, third #34 Gregg Rauscher from Thorold, fourth #01 Wayne Phillips from St Catherines. In feature two #31 Gallant was not able to take the green so that opened the door for #34 Gregg Rauscher to bring home his first ever checker in 15 years of racing! Second would go to #17 Gill, third #36 Gary Elliott from Waterdown and fourth would go to #01 Wayne Phillips.
Mini Stock action this week saw a small crack develop in the armor that has surrounded the #63 car of Brandon Crumbie from Cookstown who has been the car to beat in the early going this season. With highbanks veteran Tim Tolton from Guelph taking his turn behind the wheel of the #35 he and the #63 of Crumbie would battle inside outside for the lead as the laps wound down then with just slight connect coming out of corner two providing all the advantage #35 Tolton would need for the win. Second would go to #63 Crumbie, third #36 Cory Young from Owen Sound, fourth #86 Nick Clarke from Mount Forest and rounding out the top five #7 Paul Boyd from Harriston. Feature two would see a driver change for #63 as a shoulder problem would remove Crumbie from the car and he would be replace by Bobby Tolton of Rockwood. In feature two it was all #36 Cory Young as he would check out on the field for the checker his toughest competitor this race would be #86 Nick Clarke, third would be #35 Tim Tolton, fourth #63 Bobby Tolton and fifth #7 Paul Boyd.
Once again our drivers were not only competing for regular purse money, but also prizes of nearly $100,000 thanks to Contingency Connection Racer Rewards and nearly 100 NATIONAL Performance Manufacturers. Next racing action at Full Throttle is this coming Friday June5th for Mini Trucks, Fun Stocks, Super Trucks, Mini Stocks, Winged Modifieds, Street Stocks and Outlaw Late Models with a fan “King Of The Hill” at intermission, gates open at 5PM with racing starting at 7:30PM.
