Varney ON – The cool start to June did not take away from the great action this past Friday night at Full Throttle Motor Speedway. With another 10 new cars in the track lineup adding to the already impressive car counts drivers from across the Province are discovering the advantages to racing the highbanks. Fans were also treated to live entertainment by Shotgun Wedding in the Frankie’s / Waterloo Brewing beer garden before the racing action just one more thing to add to the overall “fan experience” you will get at Full Throttle.
Mini Trucks kicked off the night as #88 Bubba Brown picked up where he left off last week taking both features. He did have has hands full in feature one as mini truck newcomer Kendra Cassidy took a turn piloting the #67 truck. Using her go kart experience it did not take long for this young lady to figure out mini truck racing and by halfway through feature one she would take the lead from Brown. As both trucks battled hard in the late going of the race a sight touch between the two would send Cassidy up to kiss the turn four wall taking her out of the action.
Fun Stock action saw more outstanding car counts as #84 Andrea Parsons from Clifford continued on her winning ways taking feature one from the outside pole and never looked back as she was able to keep distance between her and the rest of the field. Second would go to #25 Billy Lovell from Mildmay, third #48 John Green from Drayton, fourth #9 Sandy Eccles from Mount Forest and fifth #21 Leandra Urbanek from Holyrood. Feature two would see a lot more tight racing with a late racing caution setting up another great finish for this division. Young Alex Hastie from Durham driving the #34 car would make a bold move coming out of corner four on the first lap after the restart to pass three cars and challenge the leader #9 Sandy Eccles for the rest of the race. On the last lap it looked like Hastie could pick up his first checker but #9 Eccles would get into his door in corner one taking away momentum from Hastie allowing Eccles to get the win. Hastie would come home second followed by #5 Jeramy Duguay from Hanover, fourth #71 Justin McKague from Teeswater and rounding out the top five #14 Luke Bos from Conn.
In Mini Stock action #63 Brandon Crumbie from Cookstown continues to drive the wheels of his car picking up another two feature wins and proving he is likely one of the best Mini Stock drivers in the Province currently. Curmbie’s biggest competition this night would come from his close friend Bobby Tolton out of Rockwood driving the #35 car as Tolton would take home second in both features. Third in feature one would go to #86 Nick Clarke from Clifford as he continues to adjust his new car, fourth was #34 T.J. Edwards from Fergus and fifth #9 Tessa Cremasco from Mount Forest. In feature two third would go to #73 Scott Schlueter from Stratford, fourth #86 Nick Clarke and rounding out the top five #7 Paul Boyd from Harriston.
The Winged Modifieds return to the highbanks after a couple weeks off and in feature one it #36 Dave Hodgkinson of Breslau out dueling the rest of the field for the checker ahead of #33 Tom Houghton from Kitchener, third would go to #3 James Houghton, fourth #0 Cliff Hodgkinson and fifth #46 Lisa Hodgkinson. In feature two fans got to witness the closest to racing history ever on the highbanks as #33 Tom Houghton came within meters of lapping the entire field in one race. As Houghton closed in on the back bumpers of then second and third place cars #0 Cliff Hodgkinson and #36 Dave Hodgkinson they would come together in corner two bring out the caution flag taking history away from Houghton. In the end it would be #33 Tom Houghton for the win followed by #36 Dave Hodgkinson, third #0 Cliff Hodgkinson, fourth #3 James Houghton and fifth #46 Lisa Hodgkinson.
Street Stocks again took to the speedway putting on a show for the fans in a class now where any car can win on any given night. In feature one it would be #35 Mike Thebeau from Mitchell working his way up through the field then with the help of a late race caution was able to start outside pole to then leader #20 Ryan Edwards-Kiss from Londesboro and get the jump on the outside to move into the lead and not look back. Edwards-Kiss would come home second followed by #7 Paul Huskins out of Kitchener for third, fourth #3 Mark King from Hillsburgh and fifth #33 Michael Hutt from Mount Forest. Feature two showed just how important track position is in this class as #6 Rob Wark was able to take advantage of his pole starting position and hold off the rest of the field for his first checker flag of the 2015 season. Second would go to #35 Thebeau, third #3 King, fourth #20 Edwards-Kiss and rounding out the top five #38 Douglas Fischer from Mount Forest.
The highlight of the night had to be the Outlaw Late Model class, the drivers in this field are so skilled and the cars so close in horsepower and handling it comes down to the driver making the right move at the right time. In feature one #23 Paul Milligan from Inisfill would take advantage of his early lead as he was able to hold off the hard changing #76 Tyler Williams from Chesley, third would go to #11 Cole Weber from New Hamburg, fourth #40 Mark Dixon from Durham and fifth #36 Gary Elliott from Waterdown. Feature two was the race of the night if you are a fan of good clean fast action door handle to door handle racing. #76 Tyler Williams would line up on pole with #11 Cole Weber on his outside for the drop of the green and these two veterans drivers would stay that way for most of the race. Then on the last lap with #11 Weber trying everything he could to get past the #76, Williams would take advantage of a lapped car and pinch down tight to it going through corners one and two forcing #11 Weber to fall back in line and losing out on any chance he had to make a move for the win. Third would go to #23 Paul Milligan, fourth would be #00 Trevor Thompson from Elmira and rounding out the top five #36 Gary Elliott.
