The Outlaw drivers are in preparation for this weekends’ memorial event. This Saturday will mark the Second Annual Bruce Gowland Memorial. Race fans in Ontario know that Bruce lived for racing and the drivers of OSCAAR are proud to race in his memory, in the 50 lap feature event.
Kevin Cornelius will be looking to extend his perfect feature victory record in Dickies / London Recreational Racing Outlaw Action and add his name to the memorial trophy. A competitive field will be looking to remove the #17 from the top podium spot. The #84 of JR Fitzpatrick nearly ended the streak at the last event at Peterborough Speedway and the 84 team would love nothing more than to get their first feature win in OSCAAR this coming weekend. Sean Grosman will be returning to his home track in the #29 after having his crew chief sub as the driver at Peterborough Speedway. Kelly Balson continued his streak of podium finishes and looks to carry that momentum into Sunset Speedway and the Memorial win. The last event at Sunset Speedway the #7 of Derrick Tiemersma looked to have the field covered until late race mechanical issue sidelined the team. Look for Derrick to be gunning for the win, not only in the memory of Bruce, but in the memory of his lifelong friend and crew chief Simon. After a hard crash at Delaware Speedway, the #27 of Roy Passer looks to return to action this weekend. Making his second appearance of 2015 will be the #8 of Paul Howse in his Outlaw. Ethan Cournyea has confirmed that he will be in attendance with his #71 machine and the veteran Gary Passer is set to return in his familiar #13 Jenco Equipment Outlaw. Fans will not want to forget the #82 of Cory Jones, the #39 of Shane Gowan, the #07 of Todd Campbell, 47m of Brent McLean will all be there looking for their first feature win in OSCAAR and no better time to do it than at the Bruce Gowland Memorial.
The HOOSIER Mod. The Mod teams are anxious to get back to the race track after a week off after the Peterborough Speedway event. With the competition getting hotter each week and the season starting to wind down, the drivers know they need every point they can get for the championship. Gary McLean has had a hold on the point lead and not looking to let it go any time soon. Gary has had success at Sunset already this year and will be looking to carry that on. Gary Elliott, John Baker JR, Cory Horner are the closest competitors in the points and all are eager for their first series victory. Brad Pearsall and Shane Stickle have been a couple of the drivers that have been able to reach feature victory lane in 2015, and would love nothing more than to add to the win column this weekend. Modified veterans Davey Terry and Matt Barton have been running a limited schedule in 2015 and both teams are here to win and nothing else. Look for these two teams to be battling with the leader all night long. The long list of rookies continue to impress as Mike Hearty returns to the track where he has the most experience. The 99 of AJ Emms suffered mechanical issues at the last event but is ready to get back at it this weekend. David Balych and his #12 mod continues to improve each week and will be looking for his first feature win. Fans will not want to miss a minute of this great open wheel action that only The HOOSIER Mods can bring.
Racing action is set to get underway at 6:00 pm on Saturday August 22 at Sunset Speedway. Please ensure to visit www.oscaar.ca for all the latest updates.
