Varney On – Fans were out in full force at Full Throttle this past Friday night for the kickoff of the horsepower meets horses’ weekend. With stock car racing action on Friday and a rodeo action on Saturday and Sunday fans were in for a great weekend of entertainment.
In the Jr Late Models it would it would be #14 Cody Wilds from Exeter taking both features in front of the #25 Travis Placzek from Grand Valley. In Mini Truck action it was a clean sweep for Girl Power as #7 Kendra Cassidy from Cambridge was able to get her truck to the front and keep it there even outdueling track owner Gord Bennett who piloted the #29 truck in feature one to a second place finish. Third in feature one would go to #88 Bubba Brown from London, fourth #67 Rick Baskett from Clinton and fifth #1 Denny Snider from Durham. In feature two second would go to #88 Brown, third #67 Baskett, fourth #29 this time driven for the first time ever by Travis McLean from Harriston who normally drives a Mini Stock and rounding out the top five #1 Denny Snider.
Fun Stock action again saw another great turn out of cars and in feature one #25 Billy Lovell from Mildmay would take advantage of a great starting position to get out front early and stay there all the way to the checkers as the rest of the field battled behind him. Second would go to #85 Matt Clarke from Mount Forest who has had the fast car of late. Third would be #0 Nick Clarke from Clifford followed by #84 Andrea Parsons from Clifford in fourth and rounding out the top five #73 Sherri McIntyre from Bayfield. Feature two again would see the Clarke brothers battling up front with Matt in the #85 taking the checker just in front of Nick in the #0. Third would go to #4 Dawson Urbanek from Holyrood for his best ever finish since just starting racing this spring and given the fact he is only 12 years old competing in a division with a lot of seasoned drivers. Fourth would be #84 Andrea Parsons and fifth would go to #32 Ben Klages from Hanover.
The Mini Stock class at Full Throttle continues to be one of the most close and competitive classes with anyone able to take the checker on any given night and this night was no different. Feature one would come down to another photo finish as current points leader #63 Brandon Crumbie from Cookstown would do his best to grab the lead from #35 Bobby Tolton from Rockwood but the photo would show Tolton by six inches. Third would go to #36 Cory Young from Owen Sound, fourth #7 driven by Brian Wilson from Rockwood and fifth #60 Will Lamantia from Beeton. In feature two it would be the #36 Corry Young bringing home another checker in memory of Kevin Paupst. Second was #63 Crumbie, third #7 Wilson, fourth #6 Travis McLean from Harriston and rounding out the top five #64 Dave Crumbie from Beeton.
In Outlaw Late Model action after missing a few week #75 Jeff Cassidy from Cambridge would use his pole starting position to grab the lead and looked hard to beat as the #11 Cole Weber could get to him but not around him. Then a late race caution would allow Weber to set up on the outside of Cassidy and that was all he needed after running side by side for a couple laps Weber was able to clear Cassidy and lead him to the checker. Third would go to #40 Mark Dixon from Durham, fourth #00 Trevor Thompson from Elmira and fifth #36 Gary Elliott from Waterdown. Feature two would see some great old fashion hard nose late model racing as the #40 Mark Dixon would start on pole with the #11 Cole Weber on the outside and after running a lot of the race side by side banging off each other Weber was able to clear the #40 and earn another checker. Second would go to the #40 Dixon, third #75 Cassidy, fourth #00 Thompson and rounding out the top five #36 of Gary Elliott.
As always the night ended up with another great train race and with eight trains in the field this night the fans were treated to a great show. In feature one it would be the Rockford Rednecks getting out front in one of the fastest races of the season. Second was Texas Traincar Massacre, third 454 Go Baby Go and fourth Crazy Till We Die. In feature two it was a two train race on the last lap with Texas Traincar Massacre chasing 454 Go Baby Go then as they entered corner four coming to the line 454 Go Baby Go wouldn’t turn and plowed the corner four wall handing the checker to Texas Traincar Massacre. 454 Go Baby Go was able to limp to the finish line for second followed by Crazy Till We Die, Shake Rattle N Roll, and Confused Till We Die.
Next racing action at Full Throttle is this coming Friday August 28th for Mini Trucks, Fun Stocks, Super Trucks, Outlaw Late Models and another Fan King Of The Hill at intermission. Grandstands open at 5PM with racing at 7:30PM.
