Sauble Beach ON – With the weeks counting down on a season that seems like it just started yesterday fans and drivers alike where ready to get their race on Saturday night at Sauble Speedway. Things kicked off with the Sunset Cruisers car club from Sauble Beach putting on a display of cars and trucks on the front straight a way plus even taking their turn putting some rubber down on the track under a gorgeous sunny sky in front of a full grandstand.
In the Jr Late Model division #3 Tyson Schreinert would take advantage of his front row starting position to claim his first trip to victory lane this season. In this strong class of drivers Schreinert would have to hold off many charges from the #37 Eric Thom the current points leader to hang on for the victory. Third would go #7 Ty Cavallin, fourth #12 Trenton Both and rounding out the top five #8 Kyle Parker. Both heat wins went to #7 Ty Cavallin.
Four Cylinder action had an almost caution free feature but with just two laps to go the yellow would fly for a spin by the #34 T.J. Edwards and it was the last thing #17 Kevin Bridge wanted to see as he was hoping to take this race from pole to pole leading every lap to this point. Then with the field bunched up again it would set up a green white checker as #17 Bridge would get the jump on the restart he was hoping for and was able to stay in front of the pack to bring home the checker flag. Second would go to #1 John Van Dyk, third #71 Gary Jones, fourth #36 Cory Young and in fifth #10 William Gibbons. Heat wins would go to #36 Young, #10 Gibbons, # 34 Edwards and #17 Bridge.
The Canadian Vintage Modifieds were also on hand to entertain fans this evening and they did not disappoint putting on another great show. In the end it would be the #15 piloted by Steve Lyons that would take the checker flag in a closely contested battle up front. Second would go to #57 Steve Trendell, third #18 Jason Keen, fourth #25 Ben Charbonneau and rounding out the top five #6 Ron Easton. Heat wins went to #15 Lyons and #92 Brian Atkinson.
Then the night ended with one of the best races of the season as the Ontario Pro Challenge series made their first and only appearance at the beach this year. After a shaky start with a corner one lap one spin by the #14 Tim Shannahan in which everyone was able to avoid contact. After the restart everything looked good till lap four when a pack of four cars working their way through the field on the inside line would get together coming out of corner two. Once all the cars where pulled apart the driver with the most amount of damage would be the #02 Dennis Thomson but all four cars would be able to remain in the race. With racing back underway and everyone settling into a flow and the race quickly moved along until the #88 Tim Norris would spin out battling with the #91 Mike Westwood for third spot. After the restart and with some great three wide racing at times the drivers would again get their rhythm back and would see a great battle up front as the damaged #02 Dennis Thomson would find himself in a dog fight for the lead with #91 Mike Westwood. In the end it would be #02 Thomson pulling away for the victory and leaving a battle for second third and fourth behind him. In the end it would be #91 Westwood for second, third would go to #88 Tim Norris fourth #18 Patrick Freel and fifth #40 Owen Smith.
