With the arrival of September means only one thing, playoff season starts at the short tracks of Ontario. Full Throttle Speedway was the first to host 3 big days of racing featuring the HOOSIER Mods, and the Midas Midgets on Saturday.
HOOSIER Mods: The Rick Woolner Memorial is always an event circled on every Mod drivers calendar to start the season. This year with the new format , with the overall winner being the driver with the best combined finish the event and June and this event, fans would not know till the checker flag waved who would be celebrating in 2015.
The evening would start off with time trials to set the heat race line ups for the night. Gary McLean showed his home track experience by laying down a lap of 12.343sec earning him the top spot of the night. Cory Horner and Gary Elliott would round out the top three in time trials.
The four 10 lap heat races would determine the starting order for the 50 lap feature event. Gary McLean thrilled his home town fans by taking the win in heat race 1 and 3 making him the top qualifier and the lucky man to draw for the invert. Two rookies would take the other heat race wins with #12 David Balych and #79h Cory Horner picking up the wins.
One of the hottest driver on the tour #79 John Harper and home town favorite #47 Brian McLean would lead the field down to the green. The #79 of Harper would lead the first 17 laps as the #8 of McLean was quickly working his way towards the front. McLean would take over the lead and all eyes shifted to the #39 of Shane Stickle who would have to record a third place or better finish in order to claim his first ever Memorial Title. As the laps clicked off the #39 was right where he needed to be in third but has the race wore on the handle slipped away and eventually finished in 8th place. Cory Horner had terrible luck in the June event but rebounded with a second place finish. Former Memorial winner Brian McLean would bring his #47 mod home in third place to round out the podium.
When the calculations where completed Gary McLean was declared the overall winner. Gary Elliott put together two great finishes and earned second overall with Shane Stickle rounding out the podium. In what has become a tradition the top three were awarded the Memorial Stars
This race is sponsored by many great lap sponsors and specialty awards all going to the drivers, and on behalf of the driver, The Woolner Family and OSCAAR a huge thank you to each and every one of that make this event so special for the drivers.

Midas of Orangeville Midgets: The inaugural season of the OSCAAR Midgets is quickly winding down after a very ambitious schedule traveling throughout Ontario. Each and every event has given the race fans the edge of the seat excitement and this week would be no different. Twenty five of the best signed in to do battle at the high banks. With six qualifying heats set to go to determine the 30 lap main event later in the evening. The first winner of the night would be current point leader #5 Jody Bound with heat #2 seeing the #48 of Brian Woodland taking the checker flag. Brian would also score the win in heat #4 making him the top qualifier on the night. The Fastest Lady in racing Jessica James would park her #2 midget in victory lane in heat #3. The past couple of weeks this team has come alive with the #53 of Dave Bradley taking the win in heat #5. Richard Woodland would take the win in heat race #6 in his #84 midget.
Thirty laps of exciting Midget action was set to take place and would be lead to the green flag by the #18 of Paul Draganoc and the #42 of Brain McDonald, two drivers in the top five in championship points who are still searching for their first feature win of the season. All eyes would be on the #5 of Bound and #84 of Woodland as they moved towards the front of the field. These two drivers are battling for the championship and know that every point will count. During the race the #2 of Jessica James was involved in an accident and was taken to the local hospital to be checked out. In speaking to Jessica this morning she is on the road to recovery but DR’s orders have sidelined her from competition for the balance of the 2015 season. Her focus now is on her nephews midget #1 and drive Nigel Buttivant as he prepares for his rookie season in 2016. The #84 of Brian Woodland would go on to lead the most laps earning that valuable bonus point but would give up the lead to #5 Jody Bound who would go on to record his first feature win of 2015. Rounding out the top three was the #48 of Richard Woodland who is quietly sitting back in third spot in the championship hunt as the series takes a well deserved weekend off before Velocity Weekend.
