The Southeast Super Truck Series visited Kingsport Speedway for stop number eleven of a twelve race season. Lee Tissot entered the event as the series points leader holding a 35 point lead over Tim Lollis. Fortunately, for Tissot, he competes at the three-eighths mile concrete track, nestled in northeast Tennessee, on a regular basis, so his confidence entering the weekend was high. Tissot commented on his strategy before the event saying, “Win, .. it’s pretty easy, that’s what we come to do is win races and do the best we can, and the points fall where they fall, that’s all we’ve done all year long.” That confidence paid off as Tissot took the win, his fifth of the season, and secured the series championship.
Tissot’s strategy worked well as he became the fastest qualifier, putting his No. 27, Jeff’s Auto Sales Super Truck on the pole. The Southeast Super Truck Series, however, rolls a dies to determine an inversion number. This week’s roll was the number four. That inversion relegated Tissot to a fourth place starting spot.
Tissot, however, wasted no time getting to the front taking the lead on lap 10 and never looking back. Tissot was challenged early foe a few laps by the 23 Bojangles’s truck of Matt Leicht, but after a short battle, Tissot began to pull away. Lollis, Tissot’s primary competition for the championship, was never a threat, struggling to find enough speed at the track known as the concrete jungle.
After the race, Leicht commented on Tissot’s domination – “We were decent, best race car I’ve ever sat in, but he’s just driving off into the sunset. I don’t know what the deal is, I don’t know if it’s me or what he’s got, but we just got to go home and do our homework, and just plugging away at him, I’ve got to beat him somehow, I don’t know how I’m going to do it though.”
The series now heads to Tri-County Speedway in Hudson, NC on Saturday, Oct. 3 for the final event of the season.
