“If we could make the main event and finish all the laps that would be a success in my eyes cause I have zero practice laps in these cars.”
It was mission accomplished for Cameron McGlashan as he qualified for the 50-lap feature and ran from start to finish en route to a 21st place finish, driving for car owner Mike Brown.
The weekend started off with McGlashan finishing eighth and ninth in his heats on Saturday, forcing him to run the b-main on Sunday morning. It’d start off messy with Ethan Cournyea getting into the back of McGlashan, resulting in a spin on lap two. Restarting at the back of the field, McGlashan would drive back through the field, going three-wide at times, en route to a third place finish. More importantly, though, he qualified himself for the main event.
Starting near the back of the 26-car field for the feature, McGlashan battled hard throughout the 50-lap event, staying out of trouble all the way through en route to a 21st place finish.
“I have never turned a lap in a super stock until Saturday morning and only have 14 races in my entire life, the fact that we managed to qualify for the main event and finish 21st out of the 45ish cars that showed up is huge,” he commented post-race. “I can’t thank Mike Brown enough for the opportunity! Thanks to Rick Walt for being an amazing spotter & Coach! Amazing how much you can learn in 50 laps when you have a two time thunder car champ talking you through every lap!”
The Velocity 250 marks the final event of the 2015 season for Sunset Speedway and McGlashan. The youngster impressed many this year as he finished second in Mighty Mini points with three feature victories and 13 feature top-10s behind the wheel of the No. 83 England Enterprises, ORVauto, Taylor Drywalling & Taping, Express Yourself Décor Mustang.
“I think we had a great year in the mini,” he commented. “We blew my season goals out of the water by picking up a couple feature wins. If not for engine problems on the double header weekend, we might of had a different ending championship night.”
