With each week passing by in his rookie campaign, Austin Dillon has continued to get stronger and run closer to the front. Sunday was a perfect example of that as the driver of the No. 3 American Ethanol Chevrolet had worked his way to the front, using the high-side to break into the top-10 just past the lap 100 mark.
Unfortunately, he wouldn’t see the results that he would’ve favored as a tire would flow, sending him up into the wall and ending his day prematurely.
“We had a really fast American Ethanol Chevrolet,” he commented. “We were a little tight that run. I was catching everybody in front of us. The team worked hard on our Chevrolet this weekend and I’m really proud of them. Man, what a bummer. I guess we just cut a right-front tire. I don’t know if I ran over something, or what. It showed a little heat the second run but not that much. We’re carrying a lot of speed around the top of the track, and just cut a tire. If we bring another car like this one to the racetrack this year we will end up with a win.”
Dillon added that he doesn’t whether they ran over or something or if the tire blew due to being abused as the tire “showed a little heat the second run, but not that much”.
