Looking back at the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model’s season at Sunset Speedway, here are some notable numbers to think about….
1 – With Sauble Speedway starting off later than Sunset Speedway, Joshua Stade came out to Sunset Speedway and won one of the opening night features. He then went to Sauble and won their 2015 Track Championship.
2 – Gord Shepherd started off the year by winning a pair of features, before going winless throughout the rest of the year until the Velocity 250 in September.
2 – Only two drivers scored 20 or more top-10s on the season, making up your top-two in points. Taylor Holdaway scored 21 top-10s, while Witty had 20 top-10s.
3 – Late Model Track Champion Taylor Holdaway finished third in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Standings. He becomes the highest finishing Canadian driver in NWAAS history.
3 – Jason Witty won three features this season en route to finishing second in points to Holdaway.
3 – Arguably, the 2015 campaign was Nick Goetz’s breakout season as he picked up three feature victories this season at Sunset Speedway.
4 – Four drivers this season scored 10 or more top-fives over the course of the season – Gord Shepherd, Jason Witty, Nick Goetz and Taylor Holdaway. It marks no surprise that Holdaway, Witty and Shepherd made up the top-three in points at season’s end.
5 – On September 5, Travis Hallyburton picked up his first career Sunset Speedway feature victory. The Hillsdale, Ontario native had a lot of success this season as beyond winning at Sunset, he won a pair of races at Peterborough Speedway – including the Autumn Colours Classic.
7 – Seven different drivers won a feature this season at Sunset Speedway – Gord Shepherd, Jason Witty, Joshua Stade, Nick Goetz, Taylor Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton and Brandon Watson.
9 – Fighting some bad luck over the course of the summer, Chris Morrow had a solid year with nine top-10s to finish sixth in the season ending standings.
10 – Over the course of the season, 10 different drivers scored more than 10 top-10s on the season.
12 – The number of regular night features that Taylor Holdaway won during his 2015 championship campaign.
13 – On June 13, Brandon Watson would fill-in for Dwayne Baker behind the wheel of the No. 48 Late Model, picking up the victory in the second feature on the night.
14 – Despite having a mid-season heavy crash and a motor issue, Thayne Hallyburton was able to finish 10th in the season-ending standings with seven top-10s.
15 – Despite failing to reach victory lane over the course of the season, Billy Zardo scored six top-fives and 15 top-10s to finish fourth in the season ending standings.
19 – Running his first ever full season at Sunset Speedway, Scott Wylie scored the third most top-10s of his competitors.
19 – Jason Witty, driver of the No. 19 Late Model, announced that 2015 would be his last season behind the wheel as a competitor. A fan favourite to many, Witty certainly had a solid season en route to finishing second in points.
20 – Over the course of the season, 20 different drivers found themselves scoring at least one top-five on the season.
21 – The number of top-fives and top-10s that Holdaway had en route to scoring the championship. Notably, that number leads all drivers.
30 – Over the course of the season, 30 different drivers found themselves scoring at least one top-10 on the season.
38 – The amount of points that Taylor Holdaway won the track championship over Jason Witty.
83 – Driving the No. 83 Late Model, Ian Bourque isn’t a driver that is talked about a lot. He was solid over the season, though, as he finished seventh in points with eight top-10s on the season.
90 – Driving the No. 90 Late Model, Jordan Latimer would finish 13th in points with eight top-10 finishes to be the highest finishing rookie of the 2015 season.
With the numbers crunched, I have one thing to ask – what are some of your most memorable moments of the season? Look forward to an article in the future featuring these memorable moments, as well as number crunching for each of the other three divisions.
