After celebrating the brand’s Centennial last year, General Tire opens a new chapter in its rich history this when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards teams hit the track at Daytona for pre-season testing. The two-day test session was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday but persistent rains on Friday moved the test to Saturday and Sunday. The test session will mark the first time General Tire race slicks have been mounted on American stock cars. In 1990, the brand supplied tires to the Canadian Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (CASCAR), a series that has since come under the NASCAR fold. The multi-year sponsorship with ARCA was first announced in October at the series’ final race of the 2015 season in Kansas.
“We are absolutely elated to get on track this week. We have anticipated our involvement with ARCA stock car racing for a long time and now it’s going to happen,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for General Tire.
The General branded tires will feature the “General” name in red with a white outline. In addition to the tires, each car will have the General Tire logo over the front wheel wells and on both sides of the rear spoiler giving the field of race cars a new look. General Tire’s agreement includes the official tire and sole supplier status in the ARCA Racing Series. The robust program also includes a complete television package including commercials, in-car cameras, billboards and at-track activation. It also includes race entitlements and track signage to be announced in the coming weeks. The season officially kicks off at Daytona on February 13 with the 53rd annual Lucas Oil 200.
