TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 27, 2016 • For the third year in a row, the very best of Canada’s straight-line racers will gather in Toronto to take part in the Drag Racing Night of Champions.
Drag Racing Night of Champions organizer Andrew Stirk explained the appeal of the annual gala gathering. “Drag racing tends to have a ‘niche’ fan base, and sometimes we get lost among the other racing newsmakers.
“By joining forces with the Motorama show, the Drag Racing Night of Champions (DRNOC) will allow us to not only recognize some of the best drag racers in the province for their accomplishments, but it also gives us the chance to create more awareness of the sport, and to let people know just how much drag racing is going on in Southern Ontario.”
New for this year, the DRNOC is moving to Saturday’s schedule at the show. Previously a Friday feature, the change will help in attracting even more track and series champions – as well as more drag racing fans – to the event. It will also give the participants a more relaxed schedule, offering them some extra time to enjoy the show prior to the presentations, and later, allowing them the opportunity to mingle with fans and their fellow champions and show off their awards.
Almost 30 class champions from a dozen drag racing associations and race tracks will be honoured during the Drag Racing Night of Champions Presented by Stoneridge. Each attendee will be interviewed about their 2015 titles before being presented with a personalized award.
Stirk is contacting the eligible champions, who are being asked to pre-register via the online form at www.motoramashow.com/drnoc-registration by February 19. Once registered, the participating racers will be entitled to admission to the show. They’ll also receive a personalized award and a ‘Swag Bag’ of sport-related items. They’ll also be eligible for prize draws, after the presentations.
Concluded Stirk, “Any race, in whatever discipline, is tough to win. And winning a championship is even tougher. Many of the drivers have received awards at their own galas, in front of their own, dedicated fans. With the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo’s Drag Racing Night of Champions, we have the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments in front of an entirely new audience.”
Speaking about the Drag Racing Night of Champions Presented by Stoneridge, Motorama’s David Weber said, “We’re very excited about moving the DRNOC to the Saturday of the show. With sponsorship support from Stoneridge and the help of Andrew Stirk, the Drag Racing Night of Champions is really building momentum. We hope everyone can join us on Saturday, March 12 at Motorama.”
