They always say that you learn something new each day, and the same could be applied to racing as Scott Wylie says the biggest thing he has learned is tha tyou can never stop learning.
“Whether your winning or losing you should always be learning,” he told OnPitRoad.com. “We have been fortunate to be extremely successful as a family in racing and I think one of the major reasons why is we never stop learning and trying to stay one step ahead.”
Following his own advice, Wylie has continued to get stronger each time out, having success along the way. The 2013 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Lake Erie Champion has had success at each level, taking his racing smarts to Sunset Speedway’s Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Limited Late Model division late in the 2014 season.
Wylie is set to return to the Innisfil, Ontario-based oval in 2016, after a solid first full-season last year. He will once again be partnered with Holdaway Motorsports, running as a teammate to Taylor Holdaway.
There is a new twist to the program, though, as Wylie will be debuting a brand new Streamline Racing Chassis that he has worked on, alongside Streamline’s owner Shaun McWhirter.
“My expectations for the coming season is definitely to make a run at the Sunset Late Model Championship,” he said. “I feel we learned a lot last year on both mine and Taylor’s car and we are in a good position to make a run at it.”
Last season, Wylie had his fair share of success at Sunset Speedway, scoring nine top-five and 16 top-10s. The success goes beyond that, though, with his company, Wylie Performance Racing. The success included Holdaway winning Sunset Speedway’s Limited Late Model Championship last season with 12 victories and 21 top-fives to finish third in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I Standings. In doing so, Holdaway became the first Canadian to finish in the top-five in the national standings.
“I am extremely happy with how well 2015 went,” Wylie said. “Our set up company, Wylie Performance Racing, had a great year accumulating 31 wins between its drivers and clients. I couldn’t be more proud of Taylor Holdaway and what we accomplished together. I would also like to congratulate my younger brother Jake Wylie on his first career championship in the Big 10 Super Stock series. I learned a lot about racing at Sunset and met some really awesome people. The ownership and management group at Sunset is one of the best I’ve been around in racing.”
Beyond the racing that he will be doing north of the border, Wylie also has plans to run a handful of ROC Modified and Sportmod race around New York and Pennsylvania.
“My thoughts on this season is that it’s going to be very very busy,” he commented. “My schedule includes 39 races as of now. It’s a very ambitious schedule and I would like to thank my family in advance for putting up with my passion to race.”
Just like his plans for Sunset, the plan is to score some race wins in the United States as he believes that he will be in good shape to do so with the equipment that car owner Paul Graff has given him.
