After competing in the British Formula Ford 1600 Championship last year, Patrick Dussault will switch to Canadian racing soil for this season, running the five road course events in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series.
“I got in a choice where I had to make a decision between open-wheel racing and actually trying to make a career out of my racing,” he told OnPitRoad.com. “I made this choice as I was surrounded by good people at this time, and for me it was a good situation I could put myself in. I decided to make the move to start a new racing experience and race in a new series.”
Dussault’s effort will come in the form of a new race team, MP Motorsports. The team is led by former Montreal Canadian player Patrice Brisebois, and Bruno Goyette. Goyette worked with Andrew Ranger for multiple seasons.
The Quebec driver will also have experience on the pit box, with Robert Bosisio calling the shots. Bosisio crew chiefed for Kevin Lacroix last year, leading him to a pair of series victories.
“We have a pretty strong core team, and the guys are looking towards the season,” Dussault said. “I’m pretty happy with the people that I have surrounded by myself.”
The five events include a pair of races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Circuit ICAR, Honda Indy Toronto, and Trois-Rivieres. Dussauly says he’s most looking forward to CTMP as it’s similar to the tracks that he’s ran in Europe. In the past, he has raced in British Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Ford.
The Lorraine, Quebec native isn’t going into the year with any set expectations as he says he doesn’t want to put a lot of pressure on himself.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself,” he said. “I know there’s a lot of really good guys over there and hopefully I am one of them. I am okay under pressure so my expectations to perform my best and the results will come with the performance. So if I do everything performance-wise, I don’t see a reason to not be up front.”
