BARRIE, Ont. (April 28, 2016) – When the green flag drops to start a new season at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, April 30, Wendy Adams will put the first laps on a brand new car.
Adams has a brand new Mustang she believes will help pace her to the front of a very competitive field. The Barrie, Ont. native has spent the past two seasons building the car from scratch with her husband, Bill Adams. The car features a new look as well with a ‘ghosted cobra’ adorning the door panels of the Pro Signs/Fastenal/Ernie’s Performance No.78.
“We literally stripped it down, made it brand new and built it from the ground up. It took us two years, but it’s a totally brand new build for us,” she explained. “I’m excited with the new car and to show it off. Pro Signs does all of our decals and did an awesome job to make it look nice. I’m excited for people to see the car and how it looks.”
Adams has pinpointed her focus for the season en route to achieving her ultimate goal of a top-five finish in the championship standings. She knows she’ll have to take it one race at a time in order to meet the goal, but has broken it down one step further to a corner-by-corner approach.
“My main focus is getting in and out of the corners quickly. Last year, (track promoter) Mark Dilley worked with me closer to the end of the season to help me figure out my points of getting on the brake and back on to the gas as fast as possible,” Adams explained.
“That’s my main goal, to focus on getting in and out as fast as possible and to be a little more aggressive.”
One particular date is circled on the Adams Racing calendar: August 20. Both Wendy and Bill Adams will help host Sunset Speedway’s Mental Health Awareness Night in support of New Path Youth and Family Services.
Proceeds raised through the night’s 50/50 draw will benefit New Path, which helps youth and their families deal with mental illness. The cause hits close to home for the Adams, whose son Zackery died by suicide five years ago.
“Obviously it’s significant because it’s around the time my son passed away. It’s always an important night for me,” Adams said.
Until then, Adams will have her sights set on continuous improvement in order to be a championship contending team come August. The team’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Weekly Series schedule begins April 30. Racing begins at 4:00pm. For event information, visit www.sunsetspeedway.ca.
