BRIGHTON, Ont. – May 11, 2016 – After an unfortunate rainout last weekend, Brighton Speedway is eager to resume it’s 49th season of racing this weekend as AeCON presents the second attempt at Lester’s Toonie Hot Dog Night. After last week’s event was cancelled, Brighton Speedway officials made the decision to move Toonie Hot Dog night to the May 14 show where five divisions are in action.
Registration continues this week for the all-new Brighton Speedway Kidz Klub. The Kidz Klub is for children age 4-12 and will feature nine nights of kid-oriented activities before racing action. Sign-up takes place in the speedway courtyard until race time.
The Quinte Septic Stingers will make their season debut this Saturday after being added to the schedule. Also on the schedule are the Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models and Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds.
The Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks will battle for 25 laps in the first round of the Larry’s Towing Triple Crown and the Bill’s Johns Comp 4s will race their first 20-lap ABC Taxi Triple Crown event of the season, a make-up from last week.
In Pro Late Model competition, Phil Potts leads the current standings following a double-win on opening night. Steve Baldwin currently sits second following his April 30 heat win and second-place feature finish. Brandon Mowat, Adam Nayler and Charlie Sandercock complete the current top-five in the championship standings.
Dan Ferguson currently leads the Canadian Modified field, but with a narrow 10-point margin over Andrew Hennessy, who picked up a heat race win last week and finished second to Ferguson in the main event. Both drivers will again have their hands full with a tough cast of characters, including Kraig Handley, Derrick Greig and Derek Bowers, who sit third through fifth in the standings.
The current Pro Stock points leader is also the defending champion: Justin Ramsay. Ramsay earned a double win on opening night but will face a difficult challenge if he hopes to repeat his achievement. Neither Brandon Murrell or Jonah Mutton plans to back down from their second and third-place finishes, respectively, and will press Ramsay for a spot in victory lane. Mike Freeman and Austin Reid complete the current top-five.
Tyler French is the current point leader in Comp 4 action with just a 20 point advantage over Adam Flieler and Josh Read. Both drivers will take a run at knocking the No.0 off the top podium step, but will be under pressure themselves from Luke Toms and Peter Moore who sit fourth and fifth, respectively, in the standings.
