BROOKLYN, Mich. (May 11, 2016) — Fans have the opportunity to drive the high banks on the two-mile oval at Michigan International Speedway in 2016 and they can take a behind the scenes tour of the entire facility.
In 2016, guests can experience both on the same day as the speedway will host track laps and track tours together. Join us on the following days:
- May 26
- June 16
- July 12
- August 11
- September 15
Track laps at MIS return in 2016 where fans will have the chance to drive on the two-mile racetrack. Laps will take place from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Guests who wish to do both the track laps and track tours will be slotted to drive the track from 12:30 – 1 p.m. This will allow you to be ready for the Track Tour at 1:30 p.m.
Reservations for track tours and track laps can be made by calling 800-354-1010 (no online purchases are available). Once a phone order has been placed, a ticket will be mailed to the guest in advance of their selected day. All guests are asked to use the entrance off of Brooklyn Highway.
Track tours are $15 per person for a view of the historic Michigan International Speedway. Track laps are $25 for each three-lap segment on the historic Michigan International Speedway. All proceeds benefit MIS Cares.
Tours and laps will take place rain or shine. In the case of a date cancellation due to extreme weather or safety conditions, MIS will contact all guests in advance of their visit.
“This is a highlight for the fans,” track president Roger Curtis said. “We often hear from our fans how they want to drive on the track and now is their opportunity to be a driver for a day. Everyone wants to emulate their favorite driver and experience what a NASCAR driver experiences.”
Fans can experience the banking in the corners and follow the same lines as the NASCAR drivers do – and help raise money for charity during track laps.
Laps are paced at 70 mph. The track laps are limited to passenger vehicles only, no motorcycles. No passing of other vehicles will be allowed at anytime. The driver of the vehicle must be 18 years of age and provide a valid driver’s license.
The tour will take fans on one trip around the oval before moving onto the road course depending on track activity. You will have the opportunity to experience what the banking feels like heading into Turn 1 and imagining what the drivers see at over 200 MPH.
Guests will be taken to the interior of the track through the infield tunnel entrance before stopping off at the media center. Take a seat in the deadline pressroom and imagine yourself asking a driver a question for a story. While in the infield you will see the Pit Road Suites and then go to the roof to get a view of the entire track.
The tour will stop at the Tower behind the grandstands as the guests ride the elevator to a spot high above the track. You will visit the Champions Club presented by CP Federal Credit Union where you not only see the entire racing surface, but the expanse of the facility and the Irish Hills.
In addition, the fans will see the campgrounds, including the MIScamping.com APEX RV Park overlooking Turn 3 and 4. You are so close to the action on race day that you feel the ground rumble as the cars pass. During the tour you will also see several of our MISCamping.com campgrounds and see why we consider it NASCAR in a national park.
All proceeds from track tours and track laps will benefit MIS Cares.
As a donor advised fund of The NASCAR Foundation, the mission of MIS Cares is to assist and inspire youth within our community. The NASCAR Foundation is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit entity.
MIS focuses on charity through the program MIS Cares. MIS and its sister company Americrown combined donated a total of $916,566.82 to local service groups and organizations through cash donations, work programs, grants and sponsorships, as well as tickets and merchandise that clubs raffle to raise money in 2015.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is NASCAR’s fastest racetrack. It has been the love of NASCAR racing and the thrill of a great time for race fans and drivers alike for nearly 50 years.
