KITCHENER, Ont. – May 12, 2016 – Durnin Motorsports is excited to reveal its 2016 paint scheme for weekly competition in Ohsweken Speedway’s Crate Sprint Car division with driver Ryan Hunsinger.
The Kitchener-based team is owned and operated by Jeff Durnin. The new look for the team’s Durnin Motors/Planet Realty-Tyson Hinschberger/Retail Design Group No. 43h in 2016 is a tribute to NASCAR legend Richard Petty. For Durnin and Hunsinger, the scheme is about honouring the sport’s history with a bit of fun.
“We’ve always had a Petty connection. My first Street Stock I built when I was 16 was No.43, a Plymouth and Petty blue,” Durnin said. “We’ve always been Petty fans. We’re going to keep it light and lively.”
Also new to the team this year is driver Ryan Hunsinger. Nicknamed “The Gunslinger”, the Stouffville, Ont. native was the 2014 Crate Sprint Car champion at Ohsweken Speedway and has been racing at Ohsweken for over 20 years. Hunsinger will pilot the car while Kyle Durnin, Jeff’s son, attends university in Kansas.
“Jeff and I have been friends for a long time now, so I was super excited about the opportunity because we’re friends to begin with. We’re going to go have fun and hopefully win some races,” stated Hunsinger.
Durnin and Hunsinger plan to work together on all aspects of the car at the shop and at the racetrack.
“We’ve got all the things in place to be a contender for the championship at the end of the year. We’re going to take it one race at a time and get the best results we can. When we get talking and working on the car, everybody gets excited,” Durnin said.
“The engines are all equal so it comes down to setup and driver, which is all you can really want as a racer. We’re going to work really hard on our setup and I’ll do my best as a driver. I just want to win races. That’s all I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid,” added Hunsinger.
Both Durnin and Hunsinger emphasize this season is as much about fun as it is competition and have created a relaxed environment in preparation for the season opener on May 20.
“We’re going out for fun. We’re the two old guys in the class,” joked Durnin. “Ryan’s 40 and I’ve eclipsed that by a couple of years. We’re the old curmudgeons in the group. We’re just going out to have fun. That’s why we picked the paint scheme.”
The Durnin Motorsports team plans to hit the track for Ohsweken’s test and tune on May 14 before competition in the track’s 21st Season Opener on Friday, May 20. Race time is 7:30pm. Event details are available at www.ohswekenspeedway.ca.
