OAKLAND, Ont. – May 20, 2016 – Following a successful test and tune last Friday night, the Insta-Insulation Motorsports team is ready for the Ohsweken Speedway’s 2016 season opener tonight.
The Insta-Insulation team will again feature three cars this season. Brad Herron will again drive the No.12 Crate Sprint Car while Alex Schuts moves to the No.5 Crate Sprint Car for his rooke campaign. Karl Sault will once again compete for the Thunder Stock championship in his familiar No.81.
After finishing 10th in the championship standings last season, Herron is eager to contend for wins each week and emerge as a consistent threat every Friday.
“I would really love to put this car back in Victory Lane. We did it the first year and that was a weight off our shoulders, but that sets your expectations that much higher,” Herron said ahead of the season opener. “We learned some stuff over the winter, so putting this car back in Victory Lane is job number one.”
Schuts knows he will face a number of challenges as he adjusts to the open wheel Sprint Car from stock car racing. However, he’ll benefit from an experienced teammate in Herron and help from Sprint Car drivers Jamie, Cory and Ryan Turner as well as Jeremy Hughes in his rookie campaign. While, there are obvious differences between the cars, Schuts recognizes the basics remain the same.
“You have to remember to hit the throttle. The car doesn’t turn if you don’t hit the throttle,” Schuts said. “There’s a lot of things you still have to do the same. You still need to respect the other drivers out there, know where the walls are. You need to know your surroundings, who’s around you and their tendencies. That’s racing.”
Both drivers will be among the most competitive field in the Crate Sprint Car division’s history since it began three years ago. Nearly 20 cars are expected to be in action each week.
“The competition is ridiculous. Anybody can win on any given night. It’s a lot of fun. It’s stressful, but it’s a lot of fun,” Herron explained. “It’s no longer just washing the car. You have to start analyzing everything from the night.”
For Sault, the new season is about building on the team’s late season success in 2015. Sault built a brand new car for 2015 and took some time to adjust to his new cockpit. He improved throughout the year and believes he has the car primed to run at the front.
“We haven’t changed much this year. We got it handling great last year and we’re just looking to carry on the momentum this year. The car handled great in practice, so we’ll see what happens,” Sault said, adding his goal is to win as many races as possible and let the points take care of themselves.
The 2016 season opens for all three Insta-Insulation team members on Friday, May 20 at Ohsweken Speedway. Race time is scheduled for 7:30pm. Additional event details are available atwww.ohswekenspeedway.ca.
