Bowmanville, Ontario-May 22, 2016- After an impressive 2015 campaign and recording his first road course win at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park last year, Hathaway and his #3 Raybestos/ HGC Chevrolet Team were ready for a great opening weekend.
The 2015 NASCAR Canada Most Popular Driver opened the weekend qualifying well posting a sixth place starting spot. The team was well prepared and as soon as the green flag dropped Hathaway went to work in an impressive fashion. Going in the second turn of the 10 turn 2.459 mile facility Hathaway was in fourth. By lap 17 he was thirrd and on lap 19 he took over the top running position in the 27 car field.
Hathaway did a great job leading the pack and put some distance between him and second place, knocking off some impressive lap times. A late race caution, with only three laps to go, Hathaway got an aggressive challenge from second place and was pushed off course, having to relegate the firstst spot. Hathaway recovered without any major damage with the car and took the checkered flag in ninth place.
“I am pretty proud of all that this team accomplished this weekend. We lead the most laps and that last restart cost us the race when I spun the tires slightly and that gave #32 Alex Labbe the chance to stay beside me through Turns 1 and 2. We had a great weekend, we have one of the best crews in the garage area and I think that really showed this weekend with our qualifying effort, our great pit stop today.” said Hathaway after the race.
T3R/HER was also honoured to host Mr. Robert Yates on Sunday. He took in his first NASCAR Pinty’s Series race trackside and was impressed with the level of competition on track.
The next race on the 2016 schedule will take the Team to Autodrome Chaudière for the Chaudière 300 on June 11. Hathaway is the two time defending winner of that race.
