Despite going for a spin, A.J. Emms rebounded to post a runner-up finish at Flamboro Speedway.
The Orillia, Ontario native started off the weekend on a high, winning both of his heats to set himself up for a strong starting spot for the feature.
“We unloaded Saturday not knowing what to expect going into practice,” Emms said. “After the first few laps we realized we had some fine tuning to do to get the balance where we wanted it. J.R. Fitzpatrick and Mike Westwood were a big influence in helping us doing this, and without their advice our weekend wouldn’t have been as smooth.
“Winning my first two heat races Saturday was a big moral booster to our whole team after a long winter of hard work.”
When it came time for the feature on Sunday, the speed was there, but luck had her way of playing nasty games. Contact was part of the nature of the day, and some resulted in a spin for Emms. Despite that, though, Emms stayed determined for a strong finish, which is what ended up happening.
When the checkered flag flew on the day, he’d cross the line in the second spot for his best career finish.
“After a wild feature on Sunday, I was very fortunate to come out of Flamboro with a second place finish, and was really impressed with how the car worked,” he said. “Big thank you to my crew for all their hard work all weekend.”
With a solid start to the year, Emms will head to Delaware Speedway on June 3, which was the sight of a third-place finish last season.
“With last weekend behind us, I’m really am looking forward to getting to Delaware speedway next week to see how we stack up against some of the province’s best,” Emms commented.
Emms and team thank Sunshine Super Wash – Orillia, Davenport Subaru, Creecher’s Design, Klotz Canada, Artech Promotional Wear – Orillia, Bromley Automotive, and TSS Top Shops – Barrie for the support.
