Sometimes the weekend goes your way, and sometimes it doesn’t. The latter could be said for Cameron McGlashan as he battled adversity en route to a 17th place finish in the Spring Velocity at Sunset Speedway.
The weekend started off well as the sophomore driver finished fifth and second in his pair of heats ahead of the event, setting him up to start 11th once the feature started on Sunday afternoon.
Through the early stages, McGlashan was able to maintain a top-15 running position, keeping himself in solid contention. The strong run came to an end as he’d have to make a pit stop under caution with 19 laps to go as a result of a flat tire. Thanks to help from Bill Adams and Wanda Tennant-Gordon of ADAMS Racing, the tire was changed quckly and he returned to the action.
He’d make his way up to 19th with 10 laps to go, making three more passes to run 16th with seven laps to go, but lost a spot on the final restart to finish 17th.
“We had a solid car (as) it was working good,” McGlashan commented post-race. “We were just taking our time and starting going forward then another car slide up and took out the valve steam on our left rear tire. Thanks to Bill Adams for the tire so we could get back out but our rear stagger wasn’t right anymore and the car was bad tight, but we kept fighting and finished 17th.
“Not our best run but we learn a lot and didn’t give up even though we had bad luck. Thanks to everyone who came and helped me this weekend. We will keep working on this thing and get it to the front again.”
