Kyle Weatherman, driver of the Lira Motorsports No. 58 St. Charles Glass Ford Fusion, left New Jersey Motorsports Park proud of his effort in the Twilight 150 presented by Unique Pretzels following a top-10 in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards on Saturday evening.
A championship contender in the 2016 season, Weatherman knew he needed to solidify a decent run at the only road course on the ARCA Racing Series schedule.
After winning this event in 2015, Weatherman had high expectations for the weekend. After sitting in the top-5 on the speed charts in both practices, he was ready to take on the 150-mile event; however, he was involved in an early race incident that caused him to go a lap down.
While battling for position, a competitor bumped Weatherman off the track which lead him to pit road.
“I had a lot of fun this weekend with my Lira Motorsports team,” Weatherman said. “I wish we could have repeated my win from last year, but I’m proud of the efforts and dedication that the 58 team has. We got spun out early in the race and ended up going a lap down at one point, but we just stayed calm and got the lap back. The team made the car better on our last pit stop, and we made our way back up to the top five.”
Despite the on-track incident, Weatherman had one of the fastest cars of the weekend. On the restart when he received the Lucky Dog Pass, he restarted 15th, but made his way up to ninth within one lap. Within three laps of the restart, he was back in the top-5 where he had been competing previous to the incident.
“We had a good weekend. We had a really, really fast race car and it was good once again on the long runs. We were able to go from the rear of the pack up to the top-5 within three to four laps after we got our lap back. That shows how fast the car was,” he said.
Weatherman thinks that a win is coming in the near future, but he and the team will continue to dig and work hard to make it happen. He thanks his team for the hard work so far this season.
Kyle would like to thank St. Charles Glass and Glazing, MOMO Motorsport, TraqGear, and Ford Performance for being a part of his team. He also would like to thank Carlos and Amanda for allowing him to be behind the wheel of the No. 58 machine.
